QMJHL: Moncton (3) at Saint John (2)

Game played on 12/08/2024.

General Game Notes: This is a report on the over age forwards for the Moncton Wildcats. Both Marcus Vidicek and Yoan Loshing had a big impact, leading to a 3-2 Wildcats victory.

Markus Vidicek (C, L, 5’9″, 175, Moncton Wildcats, 03/21/2004)

Grade: B+

Comments: This skilled 2-way forward had a good night for the Wildcats, providing energy and support in all three zones. He disrupted and used intelligent reads in the defensive zone while scoring a big tying goal. He competes with high work ethic and is constantly engaged both on the forecheck and back-check while applying pressure. His stick is active and he supports pucks well, often being an outlet player and the third-man high. Offensively, he has subtle skill and uses it beat defenders 1-1 when given the opportunity, but often is playing a more cerebral game and capitalizing when given the chance. This was highlighted with his goal, as he found a soft area to the goalies side and let a quick release go to tie the game. His shot is more accurate and precise than high velocity but can beat goalies head-on. After a big season last year, he is a little slow out of the gates just under a point per game, but still affects the game shift in and out.

Yoan Loshing (LW, L, 5’9″, 175, Moncton Wildcats, 02/29/2004)

Grade: A-

Comments: This highly skilled winger was an impact player all night, providing high danger chances and the game-winning assist. His dynamic ability to shift inside on defenders makes him a dangerous rush player and someone who can create offense at a glance. His feet move quick and he has good lateral quickness with good edges and agility. He is shifty and able to maneuver to open lanes. He does lack a bit in size and can tend to get on knocked off the puck at times , but his skating ability allows him to avoid traffic. One of his best assets is his shot, as he has a high velocity and quick release. This is evident on the powerplay, as he finds seams and likes to let go a one-timer. He does well to find open ice and put himself in good positions. His highlight of the night was his game-tying assist, as he burst down the wing with speed and while falling was able to hook a pass to the net front. With elusiveness and high-end skill he is a top over-age prospect in the QMJHL.
