QMJHL: Quebec Blainville-Boisbriand

Game played on 10/14/2024

General Game Notes: In a Thanksgiving matchup between the Quebec Remparts and Blainville-Boisbriand Armada, the game was tied 2-2 after two periods, but the home team took control in the third, scoring three unanswered goals to secure a 5-2 victory. Notable performances came from two first-year 2025 draft eligibles and three 2026 eligibles, who stood out in this decisive final period, helping the Armada dominate the final stretch of the game. Scout: Marco Lavigne

Justin Carbonneau (RW, R, 6’1″, 188, Blainville-Boisbriand Armada, 11/25/2006)

Grade: B+

Comments: Great game for this ’25 NHL prospect. Carbonneau finished the game at +2 with 2 goals and 5 shots, he was really involved and was really the clear leader for his team. He has great edges and hands skills, as shown by a spinorama backhand saucer in the second period. He was able to deliver a good precise right shot when on the move almost at the same time. Despite his second goal where he triggered quickly, overall he should trigger more rapidly and needs to be better in executing one-timers. One unique thing Justin could work on is his efficience on forechecks, he should break quick, stop, and changed direction versus floating around and turning in a semi-circle or arch pathway.

Mateo Nobert (C, L, 6’0″, 166, Blainville-Boisbriand Armada, 08/12/2007)

Grade: B

Comments: A strong game for this 3rd overall pick in the QM last year. Mateo finished the game at +4 in the plus/minus column and he collected two assists. He is super smart, he sees all the open lines and is able to execute in those areas when he has time and space, he definitely has an elite reading of the offensive zone. Nobert should get better at the face-off dots, gaining some weight should help him, where he finished around 40% wining percentage according to our estimation. Mateo is having a great start of the season at more than one point/game average. A top potential offensive left-handed prospect to follow closely.

Xavier Lebel (RW, R, 5’10”, 161, Quebec Remparts, 03/25/2007)

Grade: C+

Comments: Despite some offensive flashes, Lebel was less visible than in previous viewings with the exception of his selfish and dangerous major penalty at the end when the game was out of reach. Offensively gifted, Xavier seems frustrated when not putting points on the board, he has the capacity to be a 200-feet player with his speed and his superior hockey IQ. All in all, an interesting prospect who had a great first year at that level last year at 16 years old coming off the school system.

Maddox Dagenais (F, L, 6’3″, 181, Quebec Remparts, 03/27/2008)

Grade: C+

Comments: Despite his two assists, he finished the game at -4 in the plus/minus column in a 5-2 game, that summarizes really well his game tonight. Extremely gifted offensively, he plays the right way in one zone but in order to be more rounded, Maddox needs to position himself better in his defensive zone and needs to use his size, reach and grit to counter-attack and fight for the puck. He needs to transpose all his qualities, and there are many, in the neutral and defensive zones. As seen in the beginning of the second period, he has the tendency to be really loose and trust only his skills to be dominant, which can’t be the case. Offensively, he is extremely smart and can recuperate some pucks along the boards and feed his teammates nicely, as seen on the second goal.

Charlie Morrison (D, L, 6’3″, 190, Quebec Remparts, 10/12/2007)

Grade: B

Comments: Tall left defender with a very decent footwork. He can play physical but will need to find his ideal timing, being a little more dynamic will help. Charlie got Penalty Killing time and Power Play unit occasions as well, overall he did well with one exception where he took a bad decision of pinching and got caught, it almost resulted in a break-away. He was more visible in the 3rd where he delivered many short and crisp passes to initiate break-outs. In the same last period, he was very efficient in blocking a play in the neutral zone, creating a turnover and an offensive scoring chance which ultimately resulted in a penalty for l’Armada. Interesting prospect to follow for next year’s draft, he got size, speed, shot and skating.

Nathan Quinn (C, R, 5’10”, 165, Quebec Remparts, 08/29/2007)

Grade: B-

Comments: Nathan had a good showing tonight, he finished the game with two assists, both primary on Power Play goals, and he was intense all game-long. This guy is on an interesting growth curve standing at almost 6′ now where at U15-16 he was one of the smallest players in his squad. Quinn has a superior hockey IQ and vision but must work on getting better at face-off dots, he probably finished around 33% winning percentage. He was used during Penalty Killing situations and he was very active, very dynamic. His stick was moving and he really tried to cut open lines. His defensive game was intense, he forechecked and back checked both ways even when the game was out of reach at 2-5 with less than 8 minutes to play. Speedy player who can shoot more. Interesting player to follow, he started last year at the U18 AAA level.
