General Game Notes: Val d’Or scored three power play goals on their way to a decisive win tonight, and it is difficult to compete with the momentum swing that power play goals create, especially when there are three of them. The back to back goals they scored in the middle of the second period, coming less than a minute apart, made it even harder for Shawinigan to generate any momentum of their own.
Felix Plamondon (D, L, 6’1″, 163, Shawnigan Cataractes, 03/18/2006)
Game Rating
B
Félix Plamondon’s playing style is characterized by his ability to move the puck effectively and maintain good awareness on both sides of the ice. He is an aggressive player with a strong shot, which sometimes leads to defensive lapses as he tends to be too physical in pursuit of the puck. Despite this, he shows promising signs of offense when given simple opportunities. His mobility is somewhat limited, but he can create space for himself by positioning correctly and exploiting defensive vulnerabilities.
1 Viewing
Comments: Plamondon is a large defenseman who is quite mobile for his frame and competes hard defensively. Once he establishes position, he is difficult to move and has the hands to finish plays in tight areas. He is willing to play through and initiate contact, though he could benefit from improved quickness. In his own zone, he shows the potential to play a stingy, physical style of defense. Offensively, he can struggle at times to extend plays in the offensive zone and will occasionally give pucks away.
Felix Lacerte (C, L, 5’10”, 167, Shawnigan Cataractes, 06/14/2006, Vermont)
Game Rating
B+
Lacerte displays strong puck control, consistently keeping possession with his hands. He excels at slipping the puck through small openings and executing precise backhand passes. However, his footwork is somewhat lacking, relying on his hands to create space rather than developing quicker movements to support his playmaking ability.
1 Viewing
Comments: Lacerte was able to show that he is a hardworking forward who skates well, though his stride can appear a bit short at times. He plays the game with confidence and shows offensive instincts that allow him to make creative plays from the perimeter, while still maintaining a direct approach. He is effective on the forecheck, reading where opponents want to move the puck and applying pressure to disrupt and shut down breakouts. Not overly flashy but makes the smart play most of the time. When he has the puck with time and space, he is one of the more skilled players on the ice.
Elias Schneider (C, L, 6’0″, 172, Shawnigan Cataractes, 07/08/2007)
Game Rating
B
Schneider’s physical presence allows him to effectively use his size in various situations, particularly during rushes. He remains composed under pressure and can absorb contact while maintaining possession of the puck. While he has good speed when given space to crossover, he tends to rely on his hands and body weight from a standstill. Schneider demonstrates solid puck management skills, holding the puck along the boards and taking calculated looks when working up and down the wall. This approach helps him identify future plays rather than focusing solely on the current one. With continued development, Schneider can refine his speed from a dead stop to become an even more effective force on the ice.
1 Viewing
Comments: Schneider shows flashes of strong play in the tough areas around the net and along the boards, though engagement tends to vary from shift to shift. His speed and ability to transition the puck stand out. He effectively uses his strength to maintain position and extend plays along the boards, working well off the cycle. Consistently, he finds ways to generate scoring opportunities. He combines grit and competitiveness with notable skill and creativity, making him hard to play against offensively. He struggled tonight executing the skill plays he wanted to make and for his teams sake, needed to make.
Cole Chandler (C, L, 6’2″, 176, Shawnigan Cataractes, 05/01/2007, Northeastern)
Game Rating
B
Chandler demonstrated strong skating ability, often using high-stepping moves to beat defenders wide. His smooth stride allows him to maintain speed while being physically imposing, making it difficult for smaller defenders to control their body position against him. On the rush, he consistently used his size and strength to create scoring opportunities. A notable goal showcased his physicality, as he applied full weight to the puck, making it challenging for the goalie to react quickly.
1 Viewing
Comments: Chandler was able to show tonight that he anticipates pressure well, slipping behind the net to force turnovers and quickly turning them into interior passing opportunities, supported by strong stick detail. He plays with pace and consistently puts himself in good positions in the offensive zone. One of the stronger parts of his game is his willingness to go to the front of the net and compete. His speed and edge work allow him to evade pressure and maintain possession in small areas. Defensively, he seemed lost under extended pressure and threw pucks away when he had time to make smarter decisions.
Kody Dupuis (C, L, 5’8″, 168, Shawnigan Cataractes, 02/09/2006)
Game Rating
B-
Dupuis demonstrates a strong skillset as an offense-first player, particularly in his ability to make plays with his shot and passing skills. He excels at creating scoring opportunities through intelligent decision-making in the offensive end. However, he often struggles with puck battles along the boards against larger defenders, as his size can be a liability in these situations.
1 Viewing
Comments: Dupuis was able to show that he is constantly creating plays and finding open space. While he is more shifty than outright fast, he excels at using deception with his head fakes, shoulder movement, and eye manipulation to slip past opponents. He defends intelligently for his size, relying on strong edge work and an active stick to be effective in his own zone. He competes well and is willing to play in traffic, even if he really is not the physical type. The obvious parts he struggles with for a smaller player on the ice is getting out bodied and muscled for loose pucks along the wall.
Jiri Klima (LW, L, 6’0″, 185, Shawnigan Cataractes, 03/13/2006)
Game Rating
B+
Klima showcased his skillset with a clutch goal that gave his team the lead and eventually won the game. He demonstrated exceptional vision from low in the offensive zone, using a one-timer pass to sneak the puck under the bar. This play highlighted Klima’s ability to create scoring opportunities. In addition to his goal-scoring prowess, Klima also displayed a willingness to work hard on defense. He effectively possessed the puck and kept it out of the opposing team’s hands, showcasing his defensive skills. While Klima is primarily an offensive player, he demonstrated the ability to impact the game in one shift. His high energy level and skillset make him a valuable asset to his team.
1 Viewing
Comments: Nearly an identical goal that was scored to start the scoring, Klima beat out a dumped puck where it rebounded off the boards right into the slot. Klima was first on the puck and without stick handling, he went back side and took the goalie by surprise. This goal happened because of his speed and ability to read the play. It did not look like a set play but Klima was ready for the puck to bounce and wanted to be first. His game revolves around being able to possess the puck with pace and he showed that he is able to do that with time and space. Where he struggled was making his own time and space and needed to be more sturdy under pressure with possession.
Vincent Moreau (G, L, 6’1″, 173, Val d’Or Foreurs, 03/31/2008)
Game Rating
A-
Moreau continues to demonstrate a solid understanding of the game, utilizing his calm demeanor to prevent soft goals from reaching the net. His vision remains a key strength, enabling him to track pucks effectively even in congested areas. His physical presence is also an asset, allowing him to effectively seal space and maintain composure within his crease. While there is room for improvement in terms of puck handling outside the net, Moreau generally excels at reading dump-ins and utilizing positioning to make saves.
1 Viewing
Comments: Moreau was able to show tonight that he does a good job at reading first shots and giving himself a chance on second chances with his athleticism. He works to stand tall and when there is chaos in front, he makes himself small and tries to see around the screen. He could get out of his net and play the puck more. Too many times a puck was wrapped around the yellow and possession stayed with the same team when he could have got out of his net to force a turnover.
Esteban Cinq-Mars (D, L, 6’2″, 202, Val d’Or Foreurs, 08/25/2006)
Game Rating
B+
1 Viewing
Comments: Cinq-Mars scored his first goal of the year tonight as well as the dagger that sealed the game tonight. The defender simply got his shot on net with pressure in the lane, and with a bit of luck, was able to find the back of the net. What made this goal happen other than a nice bounce and screen in front, was his ability to get the puck on and off his stick quickly. He did not overwhelm with offensive skill throughout the night but provided shots on net when it mattered and made his game simple by creating chaos at the net front. With the size and skating ability he possesses, Cinq-Mars has the ability to be a reliable two way defender.
Jeremy Leroux (C, R, 5’9″, 190, Val d’Or Foreurs, 05/15/2006)
Game Rating
A-
Jeremy Leroux demonstrated a solid understanding of the game, effectively reading plays as they unfolded. He consistently displayed defensive awareness, often covering for his defenders with confidence. This ability is valuable, as it allows defenders to support the offense while minimizing the risk of leaving partners in vulnerable positions.
1 Viewing
Comments: Leroux scored a nice one timer goal where he had to had been a foot off the goal line. He started this play with a nice back door feed that he was able to sauce over a sliding defender, when that play did not convert, he found himself getting the puck back where he did not hesitate to bury home a slap shot. Leroux is a skilled player and this goal was a great example of what he is able to do with the puck to create offense. Though the score allowed for him to maybe take a couple more risks than usual, it was his skillset that put him in the position that allowed him to be successful. It is not easy to score a goal from the angle that he was at. More of a passer than a shooter, this goal showed another element to his game.
Maxime Coursol (RW, R, 6’0″, 190, Val d’Or Foreurs, 03/09/2005)
Game Rating
A-
Coursol showcases impressive skillset, particularly in tight spaces where he can utilize quick hands and make split-second decisions on defensemen’s positioning. His stick handling and awareness allow him to identify and exploit weaknesses in opponents’ defensive schemes. He excels at building speed through precise crossovers and maintaining momentum during open transitions.
1 Viewing
Comments: Coursol was one of the better offensive players tonight recording two goals and an assist to lead the Foreurs. Scored his first goal of the night with a nice move in tight on the goalie where he faked one side and slid it back side. The play started with him getting a long drop pass in his own zone, then his offensive side kicked in where he created a two on one at the blue line. He got the puck back low in the zone and attacked the net where is impressive individual effort was made. Coursol size and speed allow him to get into tricky areas of the ice and his skill and mindset allow him to convert in these areas. A huge reason as to why he has been able to post twenty goals on the year thus far.
Etienne Maheu (RW, R, 6’2″, 203, Val d’Or Foreurs, 03/13/2008)
Game Rating
B+
1 Viewing
Comments: Maheu scored the late goal in the game and while it was the cherry on top for the win, he is a player who was out when the other team needed a goal. Maheu will block a shot, get in the hard areas of the ice, and fight for the puck to get out of the zone. After his teammate wore a puck from a point shot that popped out into the neutral zone, Maheu got on his horse and won a race for a breakaway attempt. He beat the goalie clean from the hashmarks with a quick wrist shot.
Philippe Veilleux (C, L, 5’9″, 176, Val d’Or Foreurs, 03/26/2007)
Game Rating
A-
Veilleux is a solid player with above-average skills, including reliable skating and a good shot. He demonstrates physicality on the ice, often disrupting opponents and creating turnovers when active. When given space to play, he excels at reading the ice and finding seams for quick passes. Despite his smaller stature, Veilleux’s speed and agility allow him to evade pressure and quickly find open teammates. However, he can be prone to overplaying in critical situations, leading to mistakes and increased stress on his team. With improvements in battle-level play and situational awareness, Veilleux has the potential to become a more effective contributor to his team.
1 Viewing
Comments: Veilleux opened the scoring tonight after a bad hop from the puck and a misplacement from the goalie, Veilleux picked up a loose puck at the net front where he flipped it over hte goalies shoulder. Offensive instincts were shown in this goal as Veilleux knows where to go when the puck goes below the goal line. He is smaller in stature but plays with speed and plays with grit allowing himself to be successful in these areas of the ice. A huge reason as to why he has twenty eight goals on the year is his ability to get the puck on and off his stick because he knows what he wants to do and where he wants to put it before he gets the puck.
