General Game Notes: The match was mostly played in the neutral zone with very frantic play from both sides…

Comments: When you talk about an excellent goaltender in the QMJHL, everyone immediately thinks of William Lacelle of the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada. However, if there’s one player who has been a major contributor to his team’s success this year, it’s undoubtedly Kyan Labbé. In fact, where would the Phoenix be without him? He once again demonstrated his excellence in this game, where he was simply outstanding thanks to some saves that bordered on the miraculous! The only question I have is: will he be able to prove the skeptics wrong, given that, like his father Jean-François, he’s on the smaller side?

Ilya Kolmakov (LW, L, 5’11”, 174, Sherbrooke Phoenix, 09/30/2008)

Comments: Exceptional vision and equally impressive skills best describe this player. Once he reaches his full potential, he will undoubtedly be one of the best players in the QMJHL. Furthermore, his passion for the game is evident in every game, and tonight was no exception.

Comments: He showed excellent physical commitment, delivering solid hits every time he was on the ice. However, his tendency to overdo things often leads to him being caught out of position, sometimes giving his opponents scoring opportunities. With proper coaching, though, I’m confident he’ll be a top-six power forward next year.

Jayden Plouffe (LW, L, 5’10”, 183, Sherbrooke Phoenix, 01/25/2008)

Comments: He had several scoring opportunities today, and fortunately for him, he took advantage of them. Possessing impressive skills and a strong skating stride, he’s making his mark game after game. What impresses me most about him is his ability to play exceptionally well within his coach’s system, whereas Plouffe was a player who usually relied more on his instincts than on strictly adhering to game plans.

Louis-Alex Tremblay (D, R, 5’9″, 181, Sherbrooke Phoenix, 02/05/2007)

Comments: Definitely the quarterback of his team today, he not only excelled in zone exits, but also showcased his exceptional passing talent across all three zones. His pass on the goal scored by one of his defensive partners was something to behold.

Emile Beaunoyer (G, L, 5’11”, 195, Val d’Or Foreurs, 10/11/2006)

Comments: He might even agree that Émile didn’t have his best performance, as he suffered the loss despite Sherbrooke only throwing 16 shots his way. For once, his movement wasn’t quite right, such as his glove being positioned too low. Furthermore, his angle coverage seemed to be lacking on several occasions.

Maxime Coursol (RW, R, 6’0″, 190, Val d’Or Foreurs, 03/09/2005)

Comments: A very skillful right winger with good speed, as he demonstrated several times tonight. He also provides excellent leadership within this team.

Hemrick Carbonneau (D, L, 5’10”, 188, Val d’Or Foreurs, 03/27/2007)

Comments: A defenseman converted to forward due to injuries on the Val D’Or team, he didn’t do badly. Not the most talented player, but he has the heart, and that’s what counts… Praised by his coach, unfortunately, I’m not about to say the same. Carbonneau is just another player, nothing more.

Etienne Maheu (RW, R, 6’2″, 203, Val d’Or Foreurs, 03/13/2008)

Comments: Big, intense guy who completes his checks. Will be perfect for playing on the third line when he matures, but in my opinion, it’s impossible for him to play on a top-six team. If he did manage it, it would be for a bottom-ranked team. However, in every game, he always gives a very good effort… Very strong physically, very coachable, but very ordinary skill set.

Comments: With his size, it’s safe to say he’s built for the heavy-duty work! So why does he let smaller opposing forwards get through the slot without them having to pay the price? In the QMJHL, at 6’5′ and over 200 pounds, you have to excel at the box-out, something Édouard may have forgotten to consider in his pre-game preparation! On the other hand, the goal he scored somewhat redeemed his hitherto disappointing match.
