QMJHL: Victoriaville (1) at Gatineau (5)

Game played on 1/17/2025.

Michel Myloserdnyy (D, L, 6’7″, 220, Gatineau Olympiques, 02/15/2008)

Grade: A-

Comments: Michel is a physically imposing defenseman who excels in using his size and strength to his advantage. His physicality makes him a force in the defensive zone, where he is difficult to play against and consistently delivers fantastic shot blocks. Michel demonstrates a high hockey IQ, quickly identifying threats and reacting to loose pucks with smart reads. However, his lateral movement needs improvement, as he currently relies on his size and stick to defend effectively. His puck-handling skills are limited, and his footwork becomes awkward when transitioning with the puck. While he effectively identified his man in front during one sequence, he was unable to move quickly enough to prevent a screened shot that resulted in a goal. Despite these areas for growth, Michel’s physicality and defensive presence make him a valuable asset, particularly in shutting down opponents in his own zone.

Julien Paille (LW, L, 6’0″, 200, Gatineau Olympiques, 09/10/2004)

Grade: B

Comments: Julien is a highly skilled forward with quick, soft hands that make him a constant offensive threat. He showcased his precision with a beautiful tip-in goal and demonstrated exceptional puck control on zone entries, followed by a smart one-touch pass that created a scoring opportunity. Julien is particularly dangerous with the puck on his stick, though he could improve his decision-making by recognizing when a pass might be the better option over a shot. He excels on the power play, displaying great puck placement on shots from the point. While his passing is generally effective, he occasionally delivers pucks into his teammates’ skates, and refining his pass accuracy to consistently hit sticks would elevate his playmaking further. Julien’s offensive instincts and skill set make him a player to watch.

Jeremie Minville (LW, L, 6’0″, 190, Gatineau Olympiques, 04/08/2004, Bowling Green)

Grade: B+

Comments: Jeremie is a dynamic forward with a relentless motor and an impressive ability to impact all areas of the ice. His constant movement creates opportunities, as he does an excellent job of getting open in front of the net. Offensively, he showcased his vision with a perfectly executed stretch pass through the neutral zone and his quick hands with a rebound goal after muscling past a defender. On the penalty kill, Jeremie was highly effective, breaking up plays and turning the puck back up ice. His chemistry in tight spaces was evident during a well-executed give-and-go, capped by a quick release on the return pass. Additionally, his one-timer from the off-wing was a highlight, showcasing his heavy, accurate shot. Jeremie’s work ethic and offensive tools make him a versatile and dangerous player.

Justin Boisselle (RW, R, 6’0″, 190, Gatineau Olympiques, 05/16/2005)

Grade: A-

Comments: Justin is an explosive forward whose speed and physicality make him a constant threat on the ice. He demonstrated excellent instincts with a smart chip past a defenseman, using his quick feet to win the race to the puck and his strength to muscle through the opposition. His puck-handling skills are impressive, highlighted by a quick, precise feed back to a teammate to sustain offensive pressure. On the penalty kill, Justin excels at applying relentless pressure on defenders, forcing turnovers and disrupting plays. His explosive skating allows him to capitalize on loose pucks and create opportunities seemingly out of nowhere. With great touch and vision, he set up a scoring chance with a sharp, timely return pass. Justin’s combination of speed, strength, and hockey IQ makes him a dynamic player in all situations.

Isaiah Parent (RW, R, 6’0″, 170, Gatineau Olympiques, 02/25/2005)

Grade: B+

Comments: Isaiah is a resilient forward with the ability to create offensive chances through skill and effort. He showcased great composure and balance at the blue line, using a quick hop move to evade a defender and maintain possession through contact. Although he struggled slightly to cleanly receive a pass in one instance, he quickly recovered and delivered an accurate pass to keep the play alive. Isaiah is effective in front of the net, where his positioning and ability to create traffic contributed to a loose-puck goal. He also demonstrated his quick release with a sharp spin-and-fire play that tested the goaltender. Isaiah’s blend of creativity and determination makes him a valuable asset in the offensive zone.

Nicolas Petrut (RW, R, 5’10”, 160, Gatineau Olympiques, 12/14/2006)

Grade: B

Comments: Nicolas is an energetic forward who leverages his speed and determination to make an impact at both ends of the ice. While an attempt to cover for a defenseman exposed a need for greater upper body strength, he quickly made up for it by stripping the puck from an opponent and accelerating up ice. His quick forehand move to deliver a precise pass to an open teammate highlighted his offensive awareness and playmaking ability. Nicolas works tirelessly on the forecheck, disrupting opponents and creating turnovers. His instincts around the net were on display when he hammered a bouncing puck on goal, resulting in a rebound tally. Nicolas’s effort and ability to create offensive opportunities through hard work and speed make him a valuable asset.

Gabriel D’Aigle (G, L, 6’4″, 220, Victoriaville Tigers, 01/29/2006)

Grade: B

Comments: Gabriel is a goaltender with impressive physical attributes and strong shot-stopping abilities. He made a solid save on a point shot, though a rebound placement in the slot allowed an opposing player to capitalize with a quick backhand goal. Despite this, Gabriel demonstrated resilience, bouncing back after two quick goals. He made himself big in the net and showcased his lateral mobility with a key 2-on-1 save. His flexibility and strong butterfly technique make him tough to beat in tight situations, and he displayed excellent reflexes with a lateral glove save. Gabriel is quick to recover, even after a defender inadvertently kicked a puck into his own net. While his first saves are often sharp, his rebound control needs improvement, as he allowed a second goal off his blocker. However, his quick pads were effective on hard shots, and he also made a spectacular cross-crease glove save. Gabriel’s overall agility, recovery speed, and strong positioning give him the tools to be a solid goaltender, though continued focus on rebound control will enhance his consistency.

Olivier Laverdiere (F, L, 6’1″, 202, Victoriaville Tigers, 08/18/2007)

Grade: C+

Comments: Olivier is a dependable forward who excels in a defensive role. He consistently makes smart, efficient plays to clear the puck out of the defensive zone, combining composure with quick, accurate passes. Olivier demonstrates strong positional awareness, always scanning the ice to ensure he’s in the right spot to support his teammates. His ability to hold his ground under pressure and his commitment to defensive responsibilities make him a reliable presence in his own zone. Olivier’s hockey sense and discipline are key assets to his game.

Eliott Simard (RW, R, 5’9″, 185, Victoriaville Tigers, 06/20/2005)

Grade: C+

Comments: Eliot is a versatile forward with excellent reaction time and a strong two-way game. On the forecheck, he displayed outstanding anticipation by reading a pass, taking two quick steps to intercept it, and deflecting the play. His ability to block shots and quickly transition to offense was evident when he created an odd-man rush by jumping on a loose puck. Eliot is also effective on the power play, showcasing a hard, accurate snap shot from the point that narrowly missed the top corner. Defensively, he is reliable in the faceoff circle, particularly in the defensive zone, where his high success rate helps his team regain control in critical situations. Eliot’s blend of awareness, skill, and work ethic makes him a valuable contributor in all areas of the ice.

Olivier Houde (LW, L, 6’1″, 180, Victoriaville Tigers, 01/02/2004)

Grade: B+

Comments: Olivier is a strong, two-way forward with notable faceoff ability, particularly excelling on the forehand. His defensive instincts are sharp, as he fills lanes effectively and makes key blocks to prevent scoring chances. However, in one instance, he lifted his leg to avoid blocking a shot, which resulted in a tip-in goal. He also missed an opportunity to tie up his man in front of the net, allowing a redirection goal. Offensively, Olivier showcased a strong wide drive to the net, managing to get a backhand shot off over a big defenseman. While he works hard to cover for his teammates and prevent pucks from entering the net, his competitive nature can sometimes lead him to try to do too much, especially when his team is trailing. His desire to contribute and win is evident, though refining his decision-making in pressure situations would further enhance his overall play.

Maddox Labre (D, L, 6’2″, 182, Victoriaville Tigers, 06/15/2007)

Grade: B

Comments: Maddox is a skilled defenseman with excellent edge work, able to dangle with the puck and avoid contact with impressive finesse. However, he showed a lapse in discipline with a careless tripping penalty in the offensive zone while on the power play. His reaction time to cross-ice passes could improve, as he allowed a man behind him to get a dangerous scoring opportunity. On the positive side, Maddox demonstrated solid movement and quick steps to open up space and efficiently exit the zone. Defensively, he needs to be more active, as there were instances where he allowed opponents to gain possession without attempting to block or challenge the puck. With a stronger defensive presence and quicker reactions, Maddox has the potential to be an effective and reliable blueliner.

Arno Delisle (D, R, 5’10”, 190, Victoriaville Tigers, 03/11/2007)

Grade: B-

Comments: Arno is a dynamic defenseman with excellent puck-moving ability and strong acceleration. However, he was caught out of position at times, as he was beaten to the puck in the corner and began to chase the play, leaving his man open for a tip-in goal. Despite this, Arno demonstrated good resilience, taking hits to make plays and showing impressive skill in exiting the zone with the puck. He has great quickness in redirecting the puck, allowing him to escape pressure from forecheckers. While he can be knocked off balance a bit too easily, Arno continues to fight through challenges. When engaged along the boards, he is capable of delivering big hits. On the penalty kill, he needs to be more focused on protecting the front of the net to prevent scoring chances. Overall, Arno’s skating, puck-handling, and physicality provide a solid foundation, though his defensive positioning could improve in certain situations.

Robin Svancara (LW, L, 6’4″, 190, Victoriaville Tigers, 05/22/2007)

Grade: C+

Comments: Robin is a larger forward who utilizes his size effectively, especially along the boards where he competes hard in battles for the puck. While his skating can appear a bit awkward and he lacks quickness in his first few strides, he uses his strength to gain position on his man defensively and maintain control of the puck. Robin’s size also helps him win key battles and clear pucks out of his defensive zone. Improving his skating in the transition game would make him more effective at reaching pucks off chips and generating offense, but his physical presence and ability to hold his ground in the defensive zone make him a valuable asset.

Etienne Dupere (RW, L, 6’2″, 195, Victoriaville Tigers, 05/24/2007)

Grade: C+

Comments: Etienne is an energetic forward with a strong presence in the offensive zone. He consistently finds open ice as the first forward, while also working hard to force turnovers deep in the zone. His physical play is evident, as he delivered a big hit to neutralize a potential shooter before quickly clearing the puck out of danger. However, Etienne can be a bit robotic with the puck, often focusing too much on it, which led to a zone entry where he put his teammate offside. While his ability to create turnovers is impressive, Etienne would benefit from making quicker decisions with the puck to maximize his effectiveness. His work ethic and ability to disrupt plays make him a valuable asset, though improving his puck handling and decision-making would elevate his overall game.

Francesco Iasenza (D, L, 6’0″, 174, Victoriaville Tigers, 07/11/2004)

Grade: B

Comments: Francesco is a confident defenseman with excellent puck-handling skills and a strong skating stride, allowing him to make plays and navigate with the puck effectively. His ability to make heads-up passes is impressive, as he consistently finds open teammates, including one instance where he set up a shooter in a prime scoring position. Defensively, Francesco uses strong body positioning when tracking the puck, which gives him an advantage in retrieving it and maintaining control. He also demonstrated his offensive instincts by spotting an opening and firing a quick wrist shot through traffic for a goal. Francesco’s combination of skating, vision, and defensive awareness makes him a well-rounded and dangerous player on both ends of the ice.

Xavier Sabourin (RW, R, 6’1″, 200, Victoriaville Tigers, 02/24/2008)

Grade: B

Comments: Xavier excels in a pest role, consistently disrupting the opposition and drawing penalties with his relentless presence in the offensive zone. He is not afraid to play physically, delivering big hits on defensemen during the forecheck. While he possesses decent speed, Xavier could further improve his skating by incorporating more bend in his stride to maximize his quickness. Offensively, he has a quick release, as demonstrated by a near-perfect one-timer that almost fooled the goaltender. Xavier’s tenacity, physicality, and offensive potential make him a valuable player who can create havoc for opposing teams.
