Seth Jarvis (4.5 Star Amateur Rating, NHL Grade – A) Forward
Neutral Zone NHL’s Donald Godreau, May 2020: Seth is an electric skater, and a player who when he touches the puck, you slide to the edge of your seat and lean in because something exciting is about to happen. He has great straight line speed, a nice low driving stride, and is great on his edges. He is an elusive target, is shifty in open ice, and has all the confidence in the world when at full speed with the puck. His control, and soft hands at speed are very strong. As much as he loves to take an entire team on by himself in open ice, and as successful as he can be at doing just that, we can’t help but feel being a little more open minded on the rush would do him wonders. Particularly releasing pucks into good areas where he can win races, and get defenders turning around. He doesn’t do that nearly enough for us. That being said, Seth isn’t a selfish player. Particularly when things slow down on the power play, or he finds time and space in the offensive zone, he does an excellent job of using his feet and hand skills to keep defenders at length and to find teammates with his solid passing. He likes to work the half boards on the power play, and has excellent vision. Despite being a little undersized, he doesn’t hesitate to get to the net. He isn’t a gritty player so much as he is slippery. When driving to the net with or without the puck, he seems to snake his way through defenders like he’s lathered in butter. At times he’ll look like he’s been swallowed up by bigger defenders, only to come out the other side and bury loose pucks into the net. A lot of this also has to do with his determination. We aren’t sure that there is an 2002 born player in the WHL that wants to score more then him. Grade: A
February NHL Draft Rankings: Seth was ranked 28th with an ‘A-‘ NHL draft grade. He was now our 17th ranked forward.
WHL – Portland Winterhawks NHL Prospects vs Seatle Thunderbirds, January 2020: Jarvis was one of the most skilled players every time he stepped on the ice. He is a very fast skater with an explosive stride. He is clearly an athletic kid and is not afraid to play physical along the boards. He finishes checks and consistently wins battles. He is incredibly smooth with the puck – he carries with his head up, he can make what looks to be effortless moves on the opposition, or he can flat out blow by players with his speed. He has a quick snap in stride on the rush and has great puck placement – often leading players into empty space. He is on the first power play for a very good team and there is no question why. He is versatile, smart, and a consistent threat on the power play. He got lost in the defensive zone once and almost caused a goal against, so he needs to be more aware of his surroundings in the defensive zone. He can go 1v1 with anyone, he has a quick, hard one timer from the wall, and is an elite play maker. Grade: A-

CSSHL Midget Playoffs, April 2018: Jarvis is a high pick in the WHL and has WHL experience already. He does everything and makes it seem effortless because of his smooth and seamless skating. He zips around the ice with ease and makes plays at speed. His IQ is high and he has the ability to make all the players around him better. He is a threat to score or set up plays. Despite his size he goes to the right areas and does not shy away. He is a throwback in the fact he is very matter of fact and plays the game the right way with less flash than most. Very impactful player.
CSSHL Midget Prep: OHA Edmonton vs RHA Nationals, February 2018: Seth is another forward with a lot of raw talent. He can make highlight reel plays while skating with the puck at full-speed. He has very smooth hands and a quick release on his shot. The 2002 does well to find soft spots in defensive zone coverage and get a lot of shots on net. His skating is smooth and he a quick first step. His vision and passing is also top notch, making Seth a very intriguing prospect that went 11th overall in the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft to the Portland Winterhawks. Grade: A-
WHL Cup (2002s), October 2017: Seth works hard on the ice, and beats opponents with his quick feet and relentless pace. His start and stop is fantastic, he gets to his top speed fast, and can be very elusive with his good edge work. He has a strong stick and likes to sneak in behind opponents to lift their stick and take off the other way. He has a quick release and it is very accurate. Grade: B+
