SHL: Eddie Genborg

Eddie Genborg (RW, L, 6’2″, 180, Linkoping HC, 04/20/2007)

Eddie Genborg is a physically dominant power forward who uses his size, strength, and relentless compete level to be a disruptive force who separates his opponent from the puck in all three zones. His game is defined by heavy hitting, strong board play, and effective positioning, particularly around the net and along the walls cycling. While Genborg is a reliable defensive player and excels in creating offensive opportunities through his physical play, his lack of elite speed, limited puck-handling skill, and offensive creativity limits his upside at the National League level. With continued development in his skating and puck skills, Genborg has the potential to carve out a role as a bottom-six power forward or match-up forward at the NHL level.

Strengths:

Physicality and Compete Level:
Plays with an edge, averaging 2 hard hits per game and consistently finishing his checks.
Thrives in board battles, using his size and strength to win 50% of his 50/50 puck battles.
Relentless energy and willingness to engage physically make him a difficult player to play against.

Net-Front Presence and Offensive Positioning:
Takes intelligent routes to the net, creating space for himself and presenting as a passing option near the crease.
Extends plays below the tops of the circles, leading directly to Grade “A” scoring chances (1.75 per game).
Demonstrates quick stick work and poise in tight spaces, making him effective on rebounds and deflections.

Defensive Reliability:
Strong penalty killer, using his active stick and physicality to disrupt plays and clear the zone.
Effective in loose puck battles along the boards and as a forechecker.
Consistently makes smart decisions without the puck, positioning himself to break up plays or intercept passes.

Playmaking Potential:
Displays flashes of vision, but we feel his play making is a direct result of outworking his opponents.
Completes 85% of his passing attempts, showing adequate puck distribution skills.

Areas for Improvement:

Skating Mechanics and Speed:
Needs to improve overall quickness and acceleration to keep up with faster-paced competition at higher levels.
Skating stride lacks explosiveness, which limits his ability to separate in transition or close gaps defensively.

Puck Skills and Offensive Creativity:
Not a natural playmaker or puck handler; struggles to create offense individually.
Often defaults to physical play rather than using finesse or skill to maintain possession or generate scoring chances, but we can also view this as a positive because he understands who he is.

Puck Management:
Averages 3.4 giveaways per game, indicating inconsistency under pressure and occasional poor decisions with the puck.
Needs to simplify his game in high-pressure situations to reduce turnovers.

Offensive Ceiling:
While he contributes to offensive plays through effort and positioning, his creativity and dynamic ability with the puck are limited.
Must develop an expanded one-timer zone to complement his physical game and add value beyond being a net-front presence.

Strength and Durability:
Although physical, Genborg’s frame could benefit from additional muscle to improve his effectiveness in battles and withstand the rigors of professional hockey.

2024/25 Season with Linkoping HC:

Averaging 14:49 of ice time, including 2:15 on the power play and 0:50 on the penalty kill.
Consistently generates offensive chances, averaging 3.5 shot attempts and 2.2 shots on goal per game.
Posted 29 points in 22 games, demonstrating the ability to contribute offensively at the junior level.

2024 Hlinka-Gretzky Cup:
Played a key role on Sweden’s first line, often deployed as a physical checking unit.
Recorded 1 goal and 2 assists in 5 games while providing a physical edge and reliable defensive play.
Excelled on the penalty kill, breaking up plays and clearing the puck effectively.

Projection
Eddie Genborg projects as a bottom-six NHL power forward who can bring energy, physicality, and defensive reliability to a lineup. His game is built on strength, positioning, and off-puck play, making him a valuable asset for teams looking to add size and toughness. However, his offensive upside is limited, and his development will depend on improving his skating and puck skills to complement his physical style.

Draft Outlook: Mid-to-late second-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft.

Player Comparison: Brandon Tanev – A hard-hitting, high-energy winger with defensive reliability and the ability to contribute secondary scoring.
