Ty GallagherNTDP U17USHLRD6’0″192Notre Dame | 2021Clarkston, MI20032020-2021: C+

USHL: NTDP U18 vs Youngstown, January 18, 2021: Gallagher showed great poise and Hockey IQ in a number of different instances throughout the game. When possessing the puck under pressure, he makes smart decisions, spinning off forecheckers and moving the puck up the ice. Was also supporting half wall battles, getting pucks through to the net, and not forcing low percentage plays. In the second period, he also made a great read, pinching into the backdoor and burying a pass from Behrens to tie that game at 2, just 25 seconds after falling behind. Strong Performance. Grade: B

USHL: NTDP 18s vs Youngstown, January 6, 2021: Gallagher had a solid game on the back end for the NTDP. He registered a goal in this game and was effective on both ends of the ice. On his goal, the Notre Dame commit stepped up in the play, collected a seam pass, put himself in a shooting position and buried a hard wrist shot by the Youngstown goalie. On the defensive side of the puck Gallagher was steady and sound in his positioning. He blocked at least two shots, one of them coming late in the game at an important time when his team was up one. He also did a good job on the breakout, using his body to shield forecheckers from the puck and then make a hard play to help his team get out of their zone. Grade: A-

USHL: NTDP U18 vs Muskegon Lumberjacks, December 19, 2020: Gallagher is a solid defenseman that played well throughout this game and was able to contribute offensively. He is really good on the offensive blueline, shooting for tips or through screens. Gallagher scored a nice goal in the game where he collected a D to D pass from his partner on the offensive blueline and stepped into open space, firing a shot through a screen that was just over the goalie’s pad. He also registered an assist in the game, jumping up in the rush and funneling the puck towards the net where the rebound was eventually put in. On the defensive side of the puck Gallagher was physical and competed hard, winning a number of 50/50 pucks. Overall, Gallagher was most effective on the offensive blueline and played well throughout the game. Grade: B+

U16 USA Hockey Nationals, May 2019: Gallagher is coming off an NTDP camp where he was able to make the team and showed well here. He’s a versatile defender because he plays a tough, strong based defensive game where he wins battles below the dots, he can lean on forwards and push them off pucks and clears out the net front. However, he can also absorb forechecker hits and move the puck to his forwards and he can carry the puck out of his end and through the neutral zone. He makes a firm first pass and was solid on the power play moving the puck and getting his heavy slap shot on net. His best attribute here was his defensive zone game; he blocked shots, he played physical particularly in front of the net and in the corners and he was hard to play against 1v1. He needs to improve his quickness as the only times he got beat was with speed on the rush or when forwards to catch him flat footed in open ice and side-step him. He did a nice job keeping his eyes on the forwards chest and stepping up in the neutral zone and taking the body. He ended the tournament with 2 goals and 3 assists.  College: Miami Ohio

NTDP Evaluation Camp Report, March 2019: Gallagher is a powerful skating defenseman with size, balance and toughness. He can lean on opponents, knock them off pucks and win 50/50 puck battles behind the net. He is not only a physical type, he carries the puck well, he absorbs hits on the forecheck and is able to maintain possession and move the puck. He’s not the fastest skater but he is strong on his edges, he’s strong on his stick and protects the puck well along the boards. He makes crisp first passes, he can skate to open ice and doesn’t panic under pressure. He has a hard wrist and snap shot and can make plays on the power play and the penalty kill. He has a powerful net front presence and plays an honest game in his own end. Mature, balanced, tough to play against. College: Miami-Ohio

Ty Gallagher Commits to Miami, February 2019: Ty Gallagher has committed to Miami University of Ohio for the 2022-2023 season. Ty has done well this season, getting an ‘A’ grade in our last three reports of him. NZ scouts have described him as an offensive defenseman with a well rounded skill set.

2018 Minor Midget International Silver Stick, December 2018: Gallagher is a mobile and active defender. He gets involved in the offensive zone by cutting to the net using open lanes and closing gaps quickly to pinch and keep the puck in. He plays the side in the 1-3-1 PP and has a heavy shot from the side that gets through and creates a lot of second chance opportunities. Gallagher keeps his feet moving backing off the blueline, quickly gets inside the dots, and uses the defensive blueline to his advantage standing the opposition up and not giving up the zone. College: Miami of Ohio

U14 Nationals, April 2018: Gallagher is big, strong and athletic. He hit to defend and used his reach to keep opponents to the outside and to gather pucks. He has really quick hands but only used them for good as he never tried to force much. Snapped smart, accurate outlets and saw the plays up ice. His stride is balanced and strong. He has good speed and his strong core allowed him to push players away from his net and to protect the puck with possession. Consistently clogged up passing and shooting lanes. Showed he can one-time the puck and played in all situations. Contributed in a big way to a key 5-3 penalty kill against SSM in the playoffs. Showed off his long reach and smart defensive stick. Overall, he played a steady, sturdy game with poise and a strong stick. Our Michigan scouts described him as more of an offensive defenseman and we could see that side here. This performance showed real versatility in his game which is a real positive.

U14: Michigan State Finals, April 2018: Ty is an offensive defenseman who likes to join the rush and be an option for his forwards. He is a strong skater who is tough to knock off the puck. He does a very good job on the power play by controlling the puck and making good choices.

U14: Compuware/HoneyBaked Invitational, April 2017: Ty is an offensive defenseman who likes to join the rush as an option for his forwards. He is a strong skater who is tough to knock off the puck. He would be more reliable if he improved his defensive play.

2003 Michigan Bantam Fest, July 2016: Ty is an offensive defenseman who likes to join the rush and be an option for his forwards. He is a strong skater who is tough to knock off the puck. He needs to improve his defensive play but he did have a great week of camp.
