Tyson Foerster (4.25 Star Amateur Rating, NHL Grade — A-) Forward
Neutral Zone NHL’s Ian Moran’s comments, April 2020: Tyson was a machine this this year for Barrie. His 36 goals in (62 games) almost doubled his point total from last year 23 points (64 games). He’s such a strong kid and I think his strength is something that will still be noticeable at the next level. He’s a bull that enjoys contact and at times was an absolute man child in the OHL this year. He’s going to have to improve his quickness, but I think he’s got that in him. I mean, historically he’s always put up points and been an impact kid, but he wasn’t always the golden child. He’s had to work. He’s had to put in the effort to get to where he is now and I don’t see that changing. There’s a lot to really like about Tyson’s game and how smoothly he will adapt to professional hockey. He’s a shooter and he knows it. He knows he’s got a missile and he thinks he can score from anywhere. I love that mentality. I don’t think he’s a kid that will ever get confused and think he’s a dancer. He knows what he’s good at and believes in himself. He’s a power forward who put up 80 points on a team where the next closest player was an over-ager who had 47 points. That’s pretty damn impressive. If I’m running an NHL team that has a pick at the end of the first round Tyson is the type of player who I’d have to take. There’s going to be prettier kids who can get on the high light reel, but 36 goals in the OHL during your draft year is going to be hard to pass up.

OHL – Barrie at Hamilton NHL Prospects, October 2019: Listed as a center, but played right wing during this viewing. Tyson is a forward who is very strong on the puck and and has the desire to fight through defenders to make plays happen. He is strong on his skates. We feel his agility and quickness will continue to develop as he matures and trains. His absolute cannon is a real asset and gives him the opportunity to score from areas where others in this draft class can not. He showed real confidence on the power play where he was equally effective in the slot or mid-wall. Tyson understands when to fire the puck or when the better option is to quickly move the puck to a teammate. He is strong during puck retrieval and uses his physical abilities to jump on pucks and shield it from defenders while making his play. On this day he scored twice on the power play and added an assist for a 3 point night. Other 2020 NHL Draft prospects evaluated: Riley Piercey and Logan Morrison.
OHL Draft October Rankings: OMHA-ETA, November 2017: Tyson was ranked as our 11th overall prospect. Nolan Burke was rated 6th overall at this time. He is a late 2002 to keep an eye on for the 2021 NHL Draft. While Owen Shier is a 6’1″ right shot defender who’s currently playing for Timmins Rock in the NOJHL. A strong two-way defender who manages pucks well was rated 9th.
Toronto Titans, November 2017: Foerster is a smooth skating, swift passer with a great first step and ability to draw opponents toward him and then accelerate past them. He has a good stick both offensively and defensively. He sees the ice well and has enough skill to place pucks wherever he wants on the ice. He was more of a distributor than a finisher here, but he’s a dual-threat forward who can do both. Tyson received a ‘B’ evaluation grade at the Titans showcase along with other 2020 NHL Draft hopefuls Jean-Luc Foudy, Ethan Cardwell, George Diaco, Zayde Wisdom, Ryan Alexander, Jake Uberti and Frankie Carogioiello. While we feel William Portokalis, Cameron Tolnai, Eric Russell, McKay Hayes, Davis Young, Cameron Peters, Ethan Sims, Spencer Smith and Isaac Langdon are all prospects who have evaluated well in the past, including receiving ‘A’ grades here who have a chance to develop over the next few years.
Wendy Dufton, October 2017: Tyson was a key all around contributor to Barrie’s success at the London Wendy Dufton tournament. He is a good two way center who pursues puck angles well. He QBs the point on the PP and also quite effective on the PK throughout the tournament. He showed strong play making abilities and with above average hockey IQ this weekend. He lead the way and played in all key situations for Barrie. The 2017 Wendy Dufton was a launching point for some potential 2020 NHL Draft picks: Quinton Byfield, Jamie Drysdale, Lleyton Moore, Cole Perfetti, Evan Vierling, Stephen Halliday, Owen Power, Ryan Alexander, Jake Murray, Ryan O’Rourke, Daniil Chayka, Reid Valade, Jack Bar, James Hardie, Jake Uberti, Michael Renwick, Luke Evangelista, Michael Bianconi, Riley Piercey, David Jesus, Dylan Robinson, Alec Belanger, Zayde Wisdom and Frankie Carogioiello.
