Lassi Paananen (G, L, 6’1″, 183, HPK U20, 02/25/2006)

Game Rating

B

Lassi Paananen is a skilled goaltender who displayed strong movement and lateral quickness in the crease. He effectively handled sharp-angle shots and made key saves that could have been game-changers, showcasing his ability to perform under pressure.

1 Viewing

Comments: Lassi is a left-catching goalie of medium height who showed a very good performance in the first half of the game. However, in the second half his performance dropped a little, and unfortunately the third and game-winning goal after a quick shot off the faceoff, together with the fact that he didn’t face many shots overall, affected the final impression. Still, he displayed good movement in the crease and tracked the puck well in crowded situations, especially on shots from longer distances. He also made a few important saves during the match.

Akseli Ketonen (D, R, 5’11”, 152, HPK U20, 09/10/2005)

Game Rating

B+

Akseli Ketonen is a defensively-oriented defenseman with good mobility, often positioning himself in key areas of the ice to create pressure and support his teammates. He frequently looks for space in the slot area during power plays, creating opportunities for shots on goal. As a non-puck carrier, Akseli excels at finding open spaces to become a passing option while providing strong support. He consistently faces play and maintains awareness, displaying an aggressive approach on defense, particularly along the boards. In overtime situations, Akseli uses his stick effectively to push opponents out of the zone and prevent entries into the neutral zone. While his active approach can lead to turnovers, he is effective at quickly moving the puck back into play.

Comments: Akseli is a right-shot defenseman of medium height who played on the second pair, as well as on the power play and the penalty kill. He played a physical style and wasn’t afraid to step up, and in the defensive zone he showed an active approach with good movement and communication, which was visible when he organized his teammates in front of him. Defensively, he made a strong play on a 2-on-1 situation, waiting for the moment of the pass, going down to the ice, and blocking the chance. He moved the puck quickly on both sides of the ice, which we could see for example on the offensive blue line where he supported his teammates with smart passes to create danger.

Onnikalle Lehtonen (D, R, 6’0″, 157, HPK U20, 01/03/2006)

Comments: Onnikalle is a right-handed defenseman of medium height who played on his team’s first pair. He was also used on the power play, the penalty kill, and was on the ice in the final minute when his team needed to tie the game. He delivered a fairly consistent performance throughout the match. In the defensive zone he played a physical style and used an active stick, which helped him especially when defending and pushing opponents out of dangerous areas. Overall, he was strong in 1v1 battles from a defensive perspective, using both his active stick and effective body play to separate opponents from the puck. From an offensive point of view, he showed good movement with the puck along the offensive blue line.

Ilari Makinen (RW, L, 6’0″, 161, HPK U20, 12/12/2008)

Game Rating

B+

Ilari Makinen is a physically adept player who excels at applying pressure while maintaining a high level of energy on the ice. He utilizes an active stick to engage opponents during forecheck situations, demonstrating his ability to influence play. Additionally, he displays a strong desire to be involved in the action, often positioning himself near the puck to support teammates and drive the offense. However, there is room for growth in Makinen’s board play, particularly in the defensive zone. To take his game to the next level, he needs to increase his aggressiveness and efficiency in winning pucks, allowing him to better control the tempo of the game.

Comments: Ilari is a left-handed right wing of above-average height who played on his team’s first line, on the power play, and also in the last minute of the game when his team was trying to tie it. He showed good movement and skating, both with and without the puck, and on both sides of the ice. In the defensive zone he read the game well and played with his head on a swivel. There were situations where, as a winger, he dropped down to the middle to receive the puck. He was very strong in the net front area in the offensive zone, where he operated often and fought hard for his space. He didn’t mind taking a few hits, but at the same time didn’t let opponents push him around, which he showed in a small fight with an opponent. He recorded five shots in the game.

Anton Maatta (C, L, 6’0″, 166, HPK U20, 08/05/2005)

Game Rating

B+

Anton Maatta is a skilled left-handed center with good quickness in change of direction, allowing him to excel in tight spaces such as board play. He effectively moves the puck off the boards into open ice in the offensive zone and demonstrates solid game awareness. This enables him to provide timely support, recover possession, and maintain a clear view of the play. Maatta also possesses a quick shot and is not afraid to use it when opportunities arise. However, there is room for improvement in terms of consistency throughout the game. While he delivered strong performances in the first and second periods, his impact waned somewhat in the third period.

Comments: Anton is a left-handed center of medium height who played on his team’s second line, on the power play, on the penalty kill, and also in the last minute of the game when his team pulled the goalie. Anton had a great and very active start to the game, but from the middle of the match his performance began to drop. He showed very good movement both on and off the puck, and his soft hands were visible for example on a good fake movement when he got past the defender into the slot and finished with a quick pass. In the offensive zone he wasn’t afraid to play with the puck, using both width passes and passes to the slot, which led to the assist he recorded in this game. Overall, he wasn’t afraid to go to the net front area and battle for space even if it meant taking a few hits. He also showed good forecheck with a quick transition to backcheck in the offensive zone, where he pressured the opponent well, stole the puck during his backcheck, and created a dangerous chance in the net front area. As an area for improvement, I would mention faceoffs, as he won only three out of thirteen.

He was fairly quiet in the first period, but his performance improved as the game went on. He helped his team especially on the penalty kill, where he used his size and long stick very well, covering the slot area and significantly limiting the opponent’s chances. He showed a quick shot, and his second quick and accurate attempt led to his team’s second goal.

Luukas Lavikainen (G, L, 5’11”, 181, JYP U20, 07/26/2005)

Lavikainen displayed a solid overall performance throughout the game, consistently handling shots and clearing pucks to the corners. His positioning allowed him to cover angles effectively and make timely post-to-post movements to save key shots.

Comments: Luukas is a left-catching goalie of rather smaller stature who recorded over 35 saves. He used his stick actively and tried to help with the puck movement. He made several important saves and was able to hold onto pucks without giving up unnecessary rebounds. He tracked the puck well in crowded situations, especially on shots from longer distances. He kept his team in the game in the moments when it mattered most.

Jaakko Viinikainen (D, L, 6’0″, 166, JYP U20, 10/01/2006)

1 Viewing

Comments: Jaakko is a left-shooting defenseman of medium height who played on the third pair and also on the penalty kill. His performance was most convincing in the second period. He showed mainly good offensive qualities and made several drives into the slot. In the offensive zone he played with an aggressive approach, and when he gained possession of the puck he immediately tried to attack the slot. He demonstrated this in a situation where, after a quick move, he carried the puck into a dangerous scoring area and released a shot. He was also useful during zone entries, benefiting especially from the speed he was able to generate.

Veeti Vilander (D, L, 6’2″, 191, JYP U20, 01/01/2007)

Game Rating

B

Veeti Vilander is a versatile defenseman known for his strong skating ability and efficient movement on the ice. He excels at protecting the puck and making smart decisions with possession, often using the middle of the ice to facilitate passes. This skillset allows him to create scoring opportunities and control the game’s tempo. When on defense, he plays responsibly and effectively, as demonstrated by his 12 takeaways in this game.

Comments: Veeti is a left-shooting defenseman, rather tall, who played in his team’s top pairing, on the power play, and also in the final minute when his team was defending against six attackers. He was not very noticeable in the first period, but his performance gradually improved, especially in the second period. He is a mobile defenseman who moves the puck quickly, particularly in the defensive zone, which led to one giveaway – which is a bit natural risk for a player who handles the puck frequently. He is comfortable playing under pressure, as shown in a 1v1 situation. In the offensive zone, he showed an active approach and tried to join the slot area to create danger when possible. He recorded one successful block.

Comments: Eelis is a left-shooting defenseman of medium height who also played on the penalty kill and was on the ice in the final minute when his team defended against six skaters. He showed that he is strong in battles, both along the boards and on open ice, and he did not hesitate to protect the goalie when needed. He contributed to the breakouts and was not afraid to take responsibility by carrying the puck all the way into the offensive zone. He recorded one important shot block in the final minute, at a moment when his team needed it most. Although he picked up two assists, his overall performance was not very noticeable, especially in the second period. However, he still had a clear impact on his team’s victory.

Eetu Ilvonen (RW, R, 5’10”, 186, JYP U20, 05/10/2006)

He was less noticeable in the first period, but his performance improved as the game went on and peaked in the third period, where he scored a hat-trick, completing it with a sprint to an empty net. Eetu showed physical play and was useful on the power play, which was visible during zone entries. He demonstrated strong pressure to the net on his first goal, staying active in front of the crease and pushing the puck in after a scramble. For his second goal, he showed excellent faceoff participation, winning the puck immediately after the draw, his first shot was blocked, but the second attempt went in, giving his team the game-winning goal.

Comments: Onni is a left-shooting center of tall stature who played in his team’s second line, on the power play, and on the penalty kill. He won slightly above 50% of his faceoffs. He was not too noticeable in the first period, but his performance improved as the game went on and peaked in the third period. He was very effective in the net front area on both sides of the ice, fighting for space, not afraid to take hits, and even engaged in a small fight with an opponent. His net pressure contributed to his team’s second goal, where he created the necessary space and earned an assist. His contributions were also valuable on the power play, where he scored his team’s first goal of the game with a quick and accurate shot. In the final minute, he worked well on the defensive blue line, using his active stick to stop an opponent’s zone entry, which led to an empty-net goal. An area for improvement is discipline, as he recorded four penalty minutes.
