Game Sheet

Jack Parsons (G, L, 6’3″, 194, Chicago Steel, 01/15/2006, Providence)

Game Rating

A

John Parsons displays strong fundamentals as a goaltender, tracking pucks well to control second chance opportunities. He excels in his upright stance, feet positioned underneath him, which helps him stay stable and focused on the game. Comfortable playing from various angles, including awkward positions, Parsons effectively uses his reverse and overlap techniques. However, he can struggle with pucks moving laterally across the crease, as his body tends to fall forward, creating openings. Despite this, Parsons demonstrates solid ability to track upper-body shots and corral pucks nicely. His calm demeanor allows him to remain composed in the crease, making smart plays and gaining depth when necessary. While he may not be immune to shoulder checks, Parsons’ consistency is improving as the season progresses.

Comments: From New York the former NTDP goaltender is an incredible first save goaltender, has strong fundamentals, and uses his size effectively. An exceptional tracking ability watching pucks into his body and off shows how easily effective it is for him to make first saves look easy. His fundamentals are strong as he moves fluidly and constantly regains his back leg to stay mobile. Moving from a balanced and condensed stance provides power and precision for him to beat plays on his feet. Setting his feet on pucks ensures he’s ready for secondary movement and gets his center line square to opportunities. Despite kicking pucks off his lower body his rebound control to his upper body is dominant. Making some incredible first and secondary saves from rebounds or deflections kept Chicago in this contest. Sealing holes when pucks are in tight and able to scramble when needed keeps his game rounded but at times finds him in trouble. A great performance for the 2006 birth year stopping 42 of 43 to get Chicago the win on the road. Grade: A

Gavin Moffatt (G, L, 6’0″, 170, Green Bay Gamblers, 04/16/2004, Western Michigan)

Game Rating

B+

Gavin Moffatt is a skilled goaltender known for his smooth and powerful movement, which stems from solid fundamental skills. He excels at centering his body on pucks, improving second opportunity mobility, and controlling rebounds with his active stick and hands. Moffatt’s ability to recognize and read plays well allows him to stay in position and control depth effectively. His compact stance and use of angles enable him to cover a lot of real estate in the crease, making it difficult for opponents to find openings. While he may occasionally struggle with wide feet, his overall athleticism and quick reflexes make him a formidable opponent between the pipes.

Comments: The second year Gambler movement is very smooth and controlled, he plays bigger than he is and has a great athletic capability. A well-balanced stance and upper body allows the Michigan native to move with power and be smooth and controlled. Setting his feet on pucks and dropping into pucks showing an elite skill while centering his body on pucks. At just under six feet tall gaining and losing depth appropriately and aggressively allows him to play bigger than he is. The only times he finds himself in trouble is when he spreads out and scrambles but shows an incredible athletic capability to do so. Very reactive and tracking pucks well on top of scanning the ice to read outside threats, the only real times he is beaten is on perfect shots or broken plays. Having a good year and staying busy in the Gamblers crease Moffat has shown a well-rounded game. Coming up short in this one surrendering two goals on 25 shots in the 2-1 loss. Grade: B+
