Comments: With a smaller sample size in this contest Cameron was still able to show solid movement and athleticism paired with play reading that seems ready for this level after spending most of last year in the NAHL. At just over 6′ he plays larger than his frame creating size when necessary and getting more aggressive while maintaining an upright chest and hips. The only lapses were a rebound that is kicked out to a dangerous area and a puck that hits a body in front to be tapped home. Otherwise, a solid performance and all the tools to have success at the USHL level this season and moving forward headed to Boston College. Getting the win stopping 15 of 17 and looking to build a strong season moving forward.
Max Weilandt (G, L, 6’1″, 190, Des Moines Buccaneers, 07/29/2005)
Game Rating
B+
Max Weilandt is a physically gifted goaltender with an athletic playstyle that allows him to move quickly and effectively around the crease. He has strong feet and good balance, which enables him to cover pucks and eliminate rebounds easily. However, his rotational ability and hip mobility are limited at times, causing him to lose power and widen his feet without regaining center. Weilandt’s stick control is also an area for improvement, particularly when it comes to sealing his midsection on lower shots. He has the ability to drop into pucks, which is a valuable skill, but it isn’t used consistently. His movement in and out of his posts is precise and powerful, and he excels at using an overlap in high-to-low situations.

Comments: The second year Buccaneer is looking to progress this season after a somewhat sub-par season on a struggling team last season. With a condensed and athletic play style he relies on reading plays effectively and staying controlled to create success. When his feet widen and don’t set you start to find the holes in his game and his athleticism hindered. Positioning himself well and keeping his center line on pucks allows him to drop into pucks and control rebounds limiting second chance opportunities. Additional movements on second chance opportunities also see him outside of his crease or sprawling relying more on his athleticism and throwing technical fundamentals out the window. Creating consistency and setting his feet will create success for the second-year goaltender and the Bucs after opening the season with a loss but a decent performance.
