Carl Axelsson (G, L, 6’3″, 185, Muskegon Lumberjacks, 11/21/2006)
Game Rating
A-
Carl Axelsson showcases a solid fundamental base to his game, including precise movement and a strong stance. He effectively controls rebounds to his chest and hands, minimizing second-chance opportunities. His larger frame allows him to seal the ice well in low-scoring situations, making post play straightforward. However, he can be overconfident on fast-paced lateral plays, often getting outside of his crease before recovering. Additionally, a more active stick would help him better manage pucks kicked back out from his pads. Despite these limitations, Axelsson demonstrates good composure and overall game management skills, making him a reliable goaltender with some room for improvement in terms of playmaking ability.

Comments: The 2006 born Sweden native has a very fundamentally sound play style with powerful movement. At 6’4′ tall he relies more on mechanics and size than athletic ability. Maintaining his feet with precise movement keeps him mobile and ahead of plays although favoring a reverse or percentage low coverage on pucks in tight. Constant shoulder checks and scans of the zone allow him to do so while identifying outlying threats. Tracking pucks effectively aids in controlling rebounds and play in his own zone. With sound mechanics his larger movements lose some power and see widening creating holes and allowing pucks outside of his frame. A skillset and size that should provide success at the USHL level and moving forward to higher levels. A solid start to the season and performance in the long shootout to cap off the win.
Phileas Lachat (G, L, 6’2″, 192, Waterloo Black Hawks, 06/11/2006)
Game Rating
A-
Phileas Lachat displays exceptional physical presence, utilizing his size to maintain balance in the crease. His steady hands and adaptable stance enable him to stay mobile, centered on pucks, and calm under pressure. Effective rebound control is a notable strength, as he skillfully keeps pucks in front of him for corralment or coverage. However, pinpointing passes and directing pucks with precision would benefit from a more active and positioned stick. Lachat also shows comfort in his posts but struggles with decision-making in awkward angles. Overall, he possesses a solid foundation of fundamentals, making him a valuable asset to his team.

Comments: The Swiss born goaltender relies on a larger frame at 6’3′ and athletic ability to effectively round out his game. Although relying on athleticism more than mechanics his movement is powerful, and his upper body is controlled and out-front creating consistency in movement. With his hands out front this occasionally pulls his chest and weight forward affecting movement. Getting outside of his crease and precision in movement is something to watch for and puts him in vulnerable positions especially with plays in tight or around the goal line. Directing rebounds to non-threatening locations or keeping pucks in front of him to be quickly covered limited second chance opportunities. A great performance to start the year but coming up short in the shootout loss.
