USHL: Muskegon at Cedar Rapids

Game played on 11/01/2024.

Rudy Guimond (G, L, 6’3″, 180, Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, 05/19/2005, Yale)

Grade: B+

Comments: The Red Wings prospect leverages his size to his advantage to seal off angles and control play. He doesn’t have the most mobility and movement is somewhat choppy, rotationally seeming to struggle which affects larger lateral movements. Seeming to improve in this area of his game his movement is an area to watch for progression moving forward. Tracking pucks well in and out enables making first saves with ease and his size makes seeing over and around screens manageable. Some seamless movement in and out of his posts as well as some awkward footwork from low angles unsure which option to use. Controlling rebounds to his chest and hands effectively, a more active stick and precise location of pad redirections could improve low rebounds. Some early improvement and a solid game here but coming up just short against Muskegon.

Stephen Peck (G, L, 6’2″, 180, Muskegon Lumberjacks, 01/18/2005, Michigan)

Grade: A-

Comments: The 2005 born goaltender for the Lumberjacks stays within his game, centers his body well, and keeps a calm composure in the crease. Dropping into pucks and maintaining a compact stance with an upright chest that is well balanced ensures he is always mobile and an elite skillset to build upon. Forward and active hands maintain mobility and aid in rebound control and smothering pucks eliminating second chance opportunities. Using a stance differential but struggling at times in this contest with screens caused the only blemish. Playing well and improved from his early performances where widening his stance was an issue, we will see how Peck progresses.
