USHL: Omaha at Green Bay

Game played on October 4, 2024

General Game Notes: In the USHL game on October 4, 2024, the Green Bay Gamblers shut out the Omaha Lancers with a 3-0 victory. Green Bay’s defense was strong throughout the game, limiting Omaha’s scoring chances, while their offense capitalized on key opportunities. The Gamblers’ Gavin Moffatt played a pivotal role in securing the win, maintaining a clean sheet against the Lancers. Scout: Mike Szkodzinski

Gavin Moffatt (G, L, 6’0″, 170, Green Bay Gamblers, 04/16/2004)

Grade: A

Comments: Gavin played a very sound game in all aspects. His tracking of the puck was excellent and he competed thru screens/traffic. His ability to fight thru the screens and traffic really stood out. It is obvious he is a real competitor. He can shoot the puck but some of his decisions were suspect this game. His rebound control was sound and pucks stuck to him frequently. He was a difference maker this game stopping all 25 of the shots he faced. While his movement showed his athleticism, he made saves look routine because he was square all night. Gavin’s body language was great as well with no highs and lows.

Lukas Peterson (D, R, 5’10”, 165, Green Bay Gamblers, 02/15/2006, Maine)

Grade: B

Comments: Lukas again showed he can make plays when he has the puck on his stick. He made several real good breakout passes and helped get Green Bay out of their zone quickly. The were a handful of times when he was hesitant to win a puck race. In the neutral zone, he can clean up his gap and get up the ice more consistently. He is able to make up for a wider gap though because he does have good feet.

Aidan Park (C, R, 6’1″, 188, Green Bay Gamblers, 01/06/2006, Michigan)

Grade: B+

Comments: Aidan had a few chances in this game but didn’t finish. You can see he has really good instincts from an offensive standpoint. He finds spots and gets open for his teammates on a consistent basis. This was the first time I saw him on the penalty kill and it was impressive. He followed the structure well and look to be willing to block shots. His first step or two need a little improvement but other than that he can skate with almost anyone. There is certainly an upside with Aidan because of his natural offensive instincts.

Mykhailo Danylov (C, L, 5’7″, 156, Green Bay Gamblers, 08/01/2004, Michigan State)

Grade: B-

Comments: Mykhailo is an under-sized player who can bring energy and passion to the ice. He stuck up for his teammates a few times in this game. He has solid stick skills and they showed when he had space. His passion and drive are obvious. However, he seems to get lost on some shifts. He ran around a few times in this game and it led to quality chances against. If he can learn to play in a structure (even if just a minimal one) on a consistent basis – his skill set will allow him to be a contributor.

Sam Scheetz (F, L, 5’10”, 175, Omaha Lancers, 11/24/2005)

Grade: B+

Comments: Sam can really shoot the puck. He has a tremendously quick release and has a heavy shot. In the offensive zone, he has that special knack for finding scoring areas. However, he made it obvious when he was frustrated when the puck didn’t go into the net a handful of times. On the power play, he is very dangerous and seems to get into soft areas consistently. He shoots it off the flank well and creates chances because of his release. His back-check was suspect at times. Overall, he played a solid game and would have been graded higher if a puck or two found the back of the net.

Brian Lonergan (D, R, 5’11”, 171, Omaha Lancers, 12/28/2005)

Grade: B

Comments: Lonergan is a sub 6-foot right shot veteran defenseman with experience. He showed some grit along the wall and in front of the net consistently. Plays a solid QB spot at the top of the power play. He had good vision on the power play in this game. Brian created opportunities that either Omaha missed or Moffat (Green Bay goaltender) made good saves. He can certainly jump into the rush more. Lonergan makes a good first pass but then sometimes watches before jumping into the neutral zone. He will contribute all year.

Hunter Ramos (LW, L, 5’9″, 162, Omaha Lancers, 05/09/2005, Lake Superior)

Grade: B-

Comments: It is clear Hunter has a really good stick and his skills are above average. His compete-level on this night was just okay. He shied away from wall battles and stayed perimeter around the net at times. He had good vision and made some nice plays to his linemates. He wasn’t a huge threat to score – but certainly can make plays. He played the ‘bumper’ on their PP well … good one-touches and finding space to be open to receive pucks when they had the man-advantage.

Nicolas Sykora (C, L, 5’9″, 153, Omaha Lancers, 05/24/2007, Quinnipiac)

Grade: B

Comments: Nicholas is an intriguing player. He was in position all night both in the neutral zone and the defensive zone. He is a quick skater and jumped to holes consistently in this game. He is very noticeable in the offensive zone. It looks like has a bright future. Certainly someone to watch develop throughout the year.
