Eliot Seguin-Lescarbeau (G, L, 6’3″, 196, Des Moines Buccaneers, 09/14/2005, New Hampshire)
Game Rating
B+
Eliot Séguin-Lescarbeau is a skilled player who effectively utilizes his size and stance on the ice. He consistently adjusts his angle to stay centered on pucks, allowing him to track them well and read plays. His rebound control is solid, although sometimes he loses depth. When moving with the puck, Séguin-Lescarbeau tends to overcompensate by reaching out, which can create holes in his stance. In general, he maintains a strong set of fundamentals and frequently scans the ice for threats. However, there are moments where he overextends himself or retreats into his crease, losing size and mobility. Despite these minor flaws, Séguin-Lescarbeau shows promise as a player with a solid foundation to build upon.

Comments: With a 6’2′ frame the New Hampshire commit uses his size wisely and to his advantage to center his body on pucks and limit larger cross crease movements. A constant angle adjustments and smaller movements limit larger ones. This most likely because of widening knees and dropping hips reducing power over larger movements as well as throwing off his balance. When he can keep everything under his shoulders is when he finds success and balance. Seeing much of the action in this contest the Buccaneers goaltender did a good job of smothering pucks and keeping them within range to be covered. His ability to track pucks and use shoulder checks and scans of the zone is apparent and aids in setting his feet on chances against. Comfortable around his posts and using his size well he opts to make use of a reverse most of the time. A solid performance but coming up short surrendering four goals on 36 shots. Grade: B+
Calvin Vachon (G, L, 5’11”, 166, Waterloo Black Hawks, 07/19/2005)

A-
Calvin Vachon’s game is built on a solid foundation of movement, tracking, and sound fundamentals. His upright stance and feet positioned under him allow him to stay balanced and powerful throughout the game. Vachon effectively reads plays and makes saves with ease, but can be caught guessing when getting outside his crease.

Comments: The 2005 born Blackhawks goaltender is very mobile and athletic relying on his movement to get his body centered and square on pucks to make saves effectively. His movement stems from a condensed stance and upright chest allowing him to be powerful and precise. Although athletic, his movement is hindered by his hands lagging rotationally causing a regain of his hand positioning from behind his body. The Fairbanks commit stands only 5’11’ but he makes effective use of his size gaining appropriate depth and making use of a stance differential for sight lines. Making some big saves and controlling rebounds to his upper body allowed to keep the second chances low, a more active stick could prove beneficial. Stopping 18 of 20 in the road win over Des Moines and a solid effort from Vachon. Grade: A-
