Game Sheet

Carl Axelsson (G, L, 6’3″, 184, Muskegon Lumberjacks, 11/21/2006)

Game Rating

A

Carl Axelsson brings a fundamentally sound play style to the table, relying on his size and mechanics rather than raw athleticism. He excels at maintaining his footing and staying mobile through precise movement, allowing him to control rebounds and track pucks effectively in his own zone. While his larger movements can sometimes lose power due to widening, this skillset still presents success at lower levels of competition. Axelsson’s compact stance and strong fundamental base provide a solid foundation for his game, with constant shoulder checks and scans of the zone helping him identify threats. He has the ability to seal the ice well in tight spaces and recovers quickly from overcommitting on fast-paced lateral plays. While there is room for improvement, Axelsson demonstrates a promising skillset that should serve him well as he progresses through his development.

Comments: The Swedish Netminder is in his second season in North America and looking to build on a strong season mostly in the NAHL last season. Using a calm demeanor and setting his feet playing a more positionally sound game than athletic and active has created a great start to the year. This paired with a larger frame around 6’4′ should create success at the next level as the 2006 born looks to the future. While still having some athleticism and quick movement capabilities larger movements in tight saw plays get outside of his center line putting him behind. Controlling more rebounds and directing them away from traffic or smothering them can also aide in eliminating the need for these movements. Off to a great start and securing the win here Axelsson appears primed for a good season and the next level.

Tobias Trejbal (G, R, 6’4″, 188, Youngstown Phantoms, 11/09/2007, UMass Amherst)

Comments: The Massachusetts commit from across the pond in Czech Republic had a solid performance but not enough as the Phantoms fall in overtime 3-2. With quick and more athletic movement at 6’3′ he creates size and depth playing aggressively yet controlled. Finding himself in trouble when unable to identify and read plays to adjust his depth control, he finds himself in trouble. Maintaining his feet and staying mobile while creating a nice seal when down and around his posts allows him to have success in tight and in awkward angles. Larger lateral movements see a weight shift that reduces power and is something to watch moving forward. A sound skillset and solid performance but some things to clean up moving through his first USHL season with the Phantoms.
