General Game Notes: Kamloops @ Regina, October 13, 2025. Regina controlled the majority of the pace in the first and second period and had more dangerous chances in both periods, however shot quantity was similar. Kamloops scored on their opportunities and their powerplay was good, along with their goaltending. the game was decided in overtime on a powerplay that Kamloops capitalized on.

Comments: Edmonstone is an athletic goaltender with an athletic stance, quick reactions, and a good glove. In the first period, he made a sharp glove save from the slot, demonstrating set feet and reaction time. During the second period, he read the play well and made a full splits save on a backdoor cross-crease attempt, showing flexibility and lateral movement. He consistently scanned and checked his surroundings to anticipate developing plays, showing a strong hockey IQ. Early in the third, he made another key backdoor stop on the penalty kill to preserve the lead. Late in the game, he delivered a point-blank save in a high-pressure moment.

Comments: Hurlbert is an offensive-minded defenceman. He showed offensive IQ, puck movement, and vision, particularly on the power play from the top of the 1–3–1. Early in the game, he chipped the puck around a defender to create a 2-on-2, delayed at the blue line, and set up Behm for a one-timer goal, showing his poise and patience in offensive scenarios. In the third period, he drew a defender in before finding Lafreniere in the slot for the game-winning goal. He can further improve his shot selection and ability to find shooting lanes to further elevate his offensive threat.

Comments: Guram was a smooth puck-moving defenceman. He showcased smooth edgework, calm puck movement, and poise. In overtime, he maintained possession using his edges to escape pressure and created space to re-attack without any panic. In the first period, he executed a clean breakout after scanning on retrieval and making an easy D-to-D play, accepting pressure for an easy exit. Defensively, he had multiple effective hits and pins in the defensive zone to break up cycles and neutralize threats.

Comments: Lafreniere was an offensive driver with a quick, accurate release, strong hands, and high-end IQ and skating. On the power play, he scored with a one-timer from a seam pass for his first goal, getting the puck off quickly and hard. In the third period, he showcased speed and creativity by beating two defenders off the rush for a quality chance on goal. In overtime, he showcased his shooting ability once again, scoring the game-winner from the high slot with a quick-release high glove side. He drove the offence with his goal-scoring ability and his IQ, making plays off the rush and out of corners to open teammates.

Comments: Keller demonstrated strong passing, vision, IQ, and edgework. Early on, he stripped a defender in the Ozone and generated a quality chance on goal. His power play vision was evident in the second, finding a seam backdoor for a Grade-A opportunity. He was rewarded in the third with a one-timer goal off a Behm seam pass, making an easy finish into a slightly open net from the faceoff circle. He consistently used his edges to maintain possession and create separation along the wall and below the goal line, creating space to make plays to the slot and net-front.

Comments: Behm displayed a heavy shot, a strong one-timer, and offensive IQ. He scored early with a powerful shot off the rush from the half wall. He opened up on a 2 on 2 and was able to beat the Regina goaltender short side. Using his large frame, he protected the puck effectively and extended plays low in the zone. In the second, he fired a hard pass through traffic to set up Lafreniere for a one-timer goal. And later, he showed his vision and IQ on the power play again, adding another seam pass through bodies for a power play assist to Keller. He can further improve on his 1 on 1 play in open ice and speed/edgework to become a more dynamic threat offensively off the rush.

Comments: Hamilton is a smooth-skating, skilled defenceman. He has good, smooth edgework and high-end puck skills for a defenceman. In the first period, he handled pressure well at the offensive blue line, using his edges and hands to beat two defenders and make a play to an open teammate. He accepted pressure well on breakouts and transitions in the neutral zone, opening up lanes for his d partner. He consistently delivered clean first passes and maintained tight gaps surfing in the neutral zone to break up plays early and showcase his skating ability in transitions.

Comments: Fawcett is a skilled offensive driver. He showed strong IQ, puck skills, and a hard, accurate shot. He displayed speed on breakouts and consistently found shooting lanes for high-quality chances in the offensive zone. In the first period, he burned up the wall and made a play to the middle, showing his speed catching the play and becoming an option on the rush. In the defensive zone, he executed a smart middle bump between his legs under pressure to start a breakout. He finished checks on the forecheck and consistently found middle ice and did not pass up any shot opportunities from good ice.

Comments: Schultz is a smart, skilled forward. He skated well with good top speed, edges, and puck poise. He used a defender as a screen for a smart shot early and later delivered a key hit on Behm to disrupt a play in the defensive zone. In the third, he made a poised play at the blue line and found a small lane to the net where he had traffic, a high-IQ play to get the puck through layers to the net where his teammate was, getting an assist on a big goal for Regina. He supported low in the defensive zone to provide an outlet for defensemen, often being responsible low in the zone for easy bump plays from defensemen.

Comments: Deschamps is a physical presence and is a hard player to play against. He was a physical, shutdown defenceman with strong gaps and breakout execution. In the first, he delivered multiple hard, clean hits that continued throughout the game. He consistently separated players from the puck and used an active stick to break up plays, having good stick-on-puck details. He had a great heads-up play in the defensive zone early in the game with a great hit, recovered the puck, then drew the forechecker in before reversing the puck to his partner for an easy exit on the weak side of the ice. He also displayed offensive flashes with a toe-drag attempt at the blue line in the offensive zone, beating the opposing forward to create space to make a play.

Comments: Paranych is a fast and deceptive defenceman. He skated well with strong edges, quickness, and deception throughout the game. On the offensive blue line, he used a fake shot to create a passing lane for a quick play leading to a scoring chance. In the third, he made a cross-ice saucer pass for a clean breakout, showing his IQ and passing ability to hit long seams. He was on the power play and moved the puck efficiently, hitting his teammates’ tape consistently, setting up different looks. He showcased his speed getting back on pucks and further displayed his deception, hitting quick punches and head fakes to throw off forecheckers, giving himself easier breakouts.

Comments: Derkatch is quick and has good puck movement. He showcased his speed when he broke up a rush with his backcheck and quickly transitioned to turn it into a rush the other way. He also showed his vision with the puck in the second period with a snappy seam pass to Maze. He had good poise on a play at the offensive zone blueline, creating a play to open ice with very limited options. In the third, he showed his high compete level by blocking a shot late to help keep the game tied.

Comments: Lansard is a fast, skilled forward. He showed good top speed, soft hands, and compete level. In the first, he walked off the goal line for a Grade-A chance, utilizing his hands in tight for a good chance. His speed was evident in the second as he drove wide, beating his defenceman, then got creative with a wraparound opportunity. In the third, he protected the puck low using his edges to maintain puck control and fight off a defender, leading to a slot pass for a great chance. He showed his compete level and strength at the net front to knock a defenceman over, grab the loose puck and bury it short side to tie the game

Comments: Maze is a skilled, high IQ offensive driver. He has high-end puck skills, god edges and quickness. In the second period, he showed his puck skills, backhand ability, and edgework. He buried a very nice backhand goal, deking a defender in the corner, using his speed and edges to climb the wall into middle ice, and fired a backhand from the top of the circle’s top corner for Regina’s first goal. He continued to create chances, finding a backdoor lane shortly after showing his IQ and vision on display. In the third, he set up Brown with another strong backhand play to the net for a rebound with numbers in front. He plays with pace and is a big offensive driver for Regina.
