General Game Notes: Kelowna @ Tri-City October 19, 2025. This game was pretty scrappy after whistles with many scrums, Tri-City had lots of powerplay time and controlled the pace for the most part with the amount of powerplays. 5 on 5 was relatively even, but both goaltenders played very well and kept this game tight until the end, with Tri-City sealing the game late with an empty net goal.

Comments: Harrison Boettiger played a composed and athletic game, showing strong movement, quick reactions, and high-end play reading. His stance was consistently set and balanced, allowing him to stay square to pucks and make controlled saves. In the first period, he turned aside a one-timer from the slot. In the second, he tracked pucks well through traffic and made multiple key penalty-kill saves, including a glove stop on a one-timer off the draw, another slot chance grade A, and a sliding backdoor save with tight five-hole coverage. In the third, he stopped a breakaway with a composed patient blocker-side splits save to keep the game within reach. His calm presence, efficiency, and timely stops stood out throughout the game.

Comments: Mazden Leslie played a poised, high-IQ game with strong puck skills, deception, and edgework. He showed his awareness and stick work early with a smart PK read to disrupt a play and clear the puck. He showed his IQ and vision on an effortless slip pass under a stick on a breakout. He used deception at the offensive blue line to beat defenders one-on-one and created space with his feet to open passing or shooting lanes. In the second period, he gained the middle of the ice at the blue line and found the half wall for an assist to Sharpe, showcasing vision, poise, and puck movement on the power play.

Comments: Kalder Varga played a fast, skilled game, using his skating speed and quick hands to create offence off the rush. He consistently gained a step on defenders in the offensive zone and used his vision to make smart plays that generated chances. His quick release and ability to attack with pace made him a threat off the rush throughout the game.

Comments: William Sharpe played a steady two-way game with strong gap control, puck skills, and an effective shot. He demonstrated his awareness early with a smart pinch to keep the puck in the offensive zone and consistently held tight gaps before his own blue line. Defensively, he moved pucks cleanly and quickly, including a notable backhand breakout pass through pressure, showing his puck skills on the backhand. Offensively, he added a goal in the second period, walking off the half wall into the middle and placing a quick, accurate shot through a defender to the far side. He contributed on both sides of the puck all game and can be used in pressure situations on both ends of the ice.

Comments: Nate Corbet played a reliable, structured defensive game with an active stick and strong positional awareness. Not flashy but effective, he made key defensive plays, including a well-executed 2-on-1 in the second period where he maintained proper spacing between the shooter and pass option and broke up the play. He competed hard in battles, winning a corner battle and advancing it up the wall one-handed to initiate a breakout. His gap control and stick positioning consistently disrupted opposing entries, showcasing his strong defensive ability.

Comments: Xavier Wendt played a calm, athletic game in net, showing a strong stance, sharp movements, and good tracking. In the first period, he stopped a breakaway and controlled the rebound cleanly. He tracked pucks well through traffic, including a save through a crowd in the second period, followed by reacting to a wild bounce off the end boards, finding the puck in the air on its way back to the front of the net. He showed quick reflexes on a deflection in front, making a tough save look easy, and stayed composed on in crease scrambles. With seconds left in the second, he made a key breakaway save to preserve the lead going into the third, showcasing focus and poise under pressure, and late in the period.

Comments: David Byrne played a simple, steady defensive game built on good puck decisions, shot blocking, and composure under pressure. He consistently made smart breakout passes and handled forecheck pressure well. Early in the game, he executed a clean heads-up breakout and later blocked multiple shots around the net to limit second-chance opportunities. With more opportunities and experience, he can gain an offensive ability to find a skilled two-way game.

Comments: Cash Koch played a physical, high-compete game with offensive impact, good puck movement on the power play, and decent top speed. He set the tone physically in the first period with multiple hard hits and engaged after the whistle, playing with grit. He scored by driving the net on a 2-on-1 for a backdoor finish early in the game. On the power play, he moved the puck quick and added an assist by walking down the wall and threading a seam pass for a redirect goal tight in front. He combined grit with offensive touch, creating space while staying impactful at both ends. He is hard to play against, and brings a lot of pace and energy to the Americans lineup.

Comments: Connor Dale played a fast, aggressive game with strong puck protection and offensive instincts. Early on, he used his speed to beat a defender to a loose puck and held it patiently on a 2-on-1, waiting out the sliding defenceman before finding a tight passing lane for Tri-City’s first goal. He applied consistent backpressure defensively, using his speed to get back and disrupt plays. Along the wall, he protected the puck well, working off contact to walk into the middle and maintain possession. His pace allowed him to create offence from multiple areas of the ice.

Comments: Jake Gudelj played a high-compete, high-speed game with decent puck skills. In the first period, he burned a defender wide and drew a penalty with a cut to the middle, showcasing his high compete, and he never stopped moving his feet. He added a goal by battling to the net front and redirecting a puck off his skate, showing his willingness to get to the hard areas of the ice. In the third, he showed creativity with a spin move and shot under pressure, and he often supported low in the defensive zone, providing outlets and showing responsibility as a two-way forward.

Comments: Jakub Vanecek played a skilled game as a puck-moving defenseman with strong edges, gaps, and a heavy shot. He broke the puck out cleanly with deception and consistently was scanning on puck retrievals. In the second, he made a good move in the corner to start a breakout. On the power play, he distributed effectively from the top of the 1-3-1 and showcased his shot power with a few heavy shots through traffic. Defensively, he held good gaps, and in the third period shut down a rush on the PK with a tight gap and active stick before clearing the puck. Continued work on finding lanes and getting pucks through will bring even more success to his power-play unit.

Comments: Charlie Elick played a smooth-skating, intelligent two-way game with strong gap control, puck movement, and net front presence. His skating was very smooth for his bigger size, allowing him to join and support the rush. He protected the crease well defensively, making it hard for opposing players, and used his stick effectively to break up plays. He moved the puck well on the power play and in transitions, while generating offence with quick decisions and lane recognition from the blue line. His skating and intelligence gave him a strong overall presence.
