Western Hockey League

Game Played in Angel of The Winds Arena

Game Sheet

General Game Notes: Everett controlled the pace and had more opportunities for the first two periods. More shots and chances throughout the game. In the third period it looked like Tri-City had more chances and energy, Everett had a healthy lead and may have taken their foot off the gas a little bit. Tri-City got a couple to make it a game before Everett closed it out with a late goal.

Comments: LeGall is an athletic goaltender with good puck-handling and tracking. Made a great glove save on the penalty kill while staying square through traffic. Read a developing cross-ice play in the second period, stretching out to take away the angle and eliminate the chance, showing his IQ in the net. Has quick movement and slides laterally fast in the net. Navigating the crease quickly when pucks are low and in tight. His rebound control could use a little bit of improvement; he sometimes struggles to swallow pucks. Late in the game, Tri-City capitalized on a juicy rebound for a goal.

Comments: Physical defenseman with grit and good gap control. Finished multiple checks in the defensive zone and showed poise by making poise D-to-D passes under pressure instead of throwing the puck away. Maintained a tight gap in the neutral zone to deny clean entries. Is a physical presence when he is on the ice, finishing checks and getting into the mix.

Comments: Skilled forward with speed, quick feet, and a quick release. Showed his speed up the middle and his release with an early goal. He scored by driving the middle, collecting the puck on his backhand at top speed and releasing quickly, far side over the pad. Showed his defensive awareness with an interception in the defensive slot and transitioned up ice quickly, head manning the puck and caught up to the play, driving the net, which drew a tripping penalty. He is undersized, but his effort and compete was noticeable even against bigger opponents.

Comments: Physical role winger with hard forechecking and net-front presence. Delivered multiple hard hits on the forecheck, finishing checks, making it hard to play against. Had high compete on display when he beat out an icing call, and consistently established position around the crease. He is not a flashy player, but he moves pucks well and creates offence around the net.

Jesse Heslop (LW, L, 5’11”, 178, Everett Silvertips, 04/18/2006)

Heslop displayed impressive speed and physicality during the game, applying strong pressure on defense and creating scoring opportunities for his team. He effectively utilized his pace to generate shorthanded chances, including a notable breakaway attempt. Heslop also showed good decision-making skills, delivering a well-placed touch pass in transition that set up a two-on-one opportunity. His overall effort was commendable, with him consistently working hard across the ice despite not having a significant impact on the scoreboard.

Comments: Skilled forward with good vision, IQ, and compete. Showed his offensive zone IQ multiple times on a give-and-go to climb the wall and attack the middle for a shot. Drove the backside of the net, anticipating a far-side shot and finished the rebound with a strong stick. He showed his puck skills and vision with a backhand pass through a seam under pressure to the low support, and added a late breakaway goal, using speed through the middle and finishing a slick forehand-to-backhand move.

Comments: Poised playmaker with good hands and passing. Found space wide on entry, received a cross-ice pass, and showed poise by delaying rather than shooting early. Scans the ice well when he has possession, taking information and finding plays. Has good skating ability, fairly smooth edgework and speed. Attempted a backdoor feed that deflected off a defender and into the open net for a goal, was looking pass but got a good bounce. He is a smaller player, which makes the compete and skill work important; his skill and poise with the puck make him effective offensively.

Xavier Wendt (G, L, 6’0″, 179, Tri-City Americans, 01/24/2008)

Game Rating

B

Xavier Wendt demonstrated solid net-minding skills in his game, showcasing athletic ability and sharp movements. He exhibited good tracking and puck control, making several key saves throughout the contest. Notably, he stopped a breakaway and controlled the rebound cleanly, and also tracked a puck through traffic with ease. His reflexes were quick, as seen on a deflection save in front of the net, and he remained composed during scrambles for the puck.

Comments: Athletic goaltender with strong tracking, lateral movement, and compete. Made an early cross-crease pad save on a backdoor chance with a strong push and full extension. Showed his compete level with a huge desperation recovery save on a net-front bounce, diving back to take away an open net with the glove. Throughout the game, he tracked pucks well through traffic and limited secondary chances. The stats did not tell the story for this game; he made multiple big saves.

Comments: Steady defenseman with puck-moving ability and composure. Showed good body positioning on breakouts, protecting the puck and moving it up to forwards while under pressure. Drew a penalty by keeping the puck in a safe area with good body positioning and smart play rather than forcing a play. Made quick, simple up plays when pressured to relieve zone time. Simple puck-moving defenceman.

Comments: Big, physical, defensive-minded defenseman. Used strong body positioning in front of the net and was well-positioned to step behind the net to pin an opposing forward and kill the play. Added defensive value with a key block on a dangerous backdoor attempt. Closed plays well physically in corners and on walls. Can improve on straight-line speed and his footwork.

Comments: Skilled forward with speed and good hockey IQ. Made a smart cross-corner dump reading pressure, sending the puck to the far-side winger with speed instead of forcing a play at the line. Consistently supported the puck through the neutral zone and made smart plays offensively.

Comments: Solid skating forward with good vision and passing ability. Showcased his passing vision when he found a seam from the corner to hit a diving defenseman with a well-timed feed through traffic. Often presented a low, slow option to support defensemen under pressure on breakouts, showing his reliability in the d-zone. Can improve on his offensive looks off the rush to create more offence.
