Yaroslav Fedoseyev

Yaroslav Fedoseyev (D, R, 6’2″, 187, Belye Medvedi Chelyabinsk, 11/05/2007) Yaroslav Fedoseyev is a 6’2′, 187-pound right-shot defenseman from Chelyabinsk who has already shown the ability to handle multiple professional levels, splitting time between the MHL, VHL, and KHL while remaining productive and physically engaged in each environment. He is a legitimate NHL prospect. As an assistant captain in the MHL he produced 13 points in 24 games with a +12 rating while playing a heavy two-way role, and he has continued to hold his own in the VHL with 5 points in 23 games and even scored a goal in limited KHL action, which is notable for a 2007-born defenseman still developing physically. Fedoseyev averages 18:36 of total ice time with responsibilities on both the power play (1:38) and penalty kill (1:23). He is trusted in all situations rather than sheltered in anyway. He is a defenseman who impacts the game in multiple ways, generating strong shot volume for a defenseman at 4 attempts per game with 1.8 reaching the net and produces 0.45 Grade ‘A’ chances per game while converting at an efficient 15%. His puck battle success rate of 62% is particularly impressive and I feel is an essential trait for projecting to the NHL level. He also shows strong puck management ability with an 86% pass completion rate while contributing nearly one pre-shot pass per game (0.87). He is clearly capable of moving the puck efficiently and supporting offensive play without overhandling. Defensively and physically he is already playing a pro-style game. His 1.4 hits per game and willingness to engage physically show that he uses his size effectively, while his puck retrieval and defensive engagement numbers demonstrate that he is comfortable playing in high-traffic areas. The main concern in his profile is discipline. His aggressive style can sometimes cross the line or take him out of positioning when defending or trying to get retribution (which I view as a positive). However, the reason Fedoseyev projects strongly as an NHL draft pick is that he combines pro-level size, physical competitiveness, and puck-moving ability with the versatility to play in all situations. His ability to handle minutes at three different competitive levels-including brief KHL exposure-speaks to his maturity and adaptability. In my opinion, Fedoseyev is one of the more legitimate NHL prospects in this group because his statistical profile shows a defenseman who can influence the game physically, move pucks efficiently, and handle responsibility in multiple situations. If his development continues on its current trajectory and he improves his discipline while continuing to add strength, he has a realistic chance to develop into a two-way NHL defenseman capable of playing in a second-pair role within the next two to four years. If his offensive instincts plateau or discipline issues remain, his floor still projects as a reliable professional defenseman because of his size, competitiveness, and defensive engagement.
