#5 St. George’s uses Big Third to Skate by Roxbury Latin 6-4
West Roxbury, MA: The visiting Dragons of St. George’s trailed 4-2 with just over nine minutes remaining before they scored four unanswered goals to race by the Roxbury Latin Foxes 6-4 on Friday night.
The home team started the scoring on the powerplay when Joe Meade (Natick, MA) took a nice feed from Will Archibald (Canton, MA) and hammered the puck by the goalie. The teams traded some chances, but the first would end with The Foxes leading 1-0.
St. George’s would answer a few minutes into the second frame when Cole Longfield,
(Woodstock, VT) drove down the wing and placed a bad-angle shot under the goalie’s pads. The visitors would jump ahead 2-1 on a powerplay. Danny Buckley (Warwick, RI) tipped a shot from the point from Providence commit Marco Senerchia (Greenville, RI) into the back of the net. Roxbury Latin would not go away and would take the lead before the period ended with two more powerplay goals. Nolan Cahill (Westwood, MA) scored on a net-front scramble after a shot from the point by Thomas Pender (Milton, MA). A few minutes later, Cole Oberg (Weston, MA) jammed a puck home in tight on a rebound from a point shot. The home team would carry a 3-2 lead into the second break.
The Foxes opened a two-goal lead a few minutes into the third when Meade fired one by the goalie from the circles. However, St. George’s gained its footing and scored four straight goals. Ethan Goodrich (North Hampton, NH) scored on a nice individual effort. Friars commit Everett Baldwin (East Providence, RI) picked a corner on a line-rush. Max Donatelli (Barrington, RI) scored the game-winner on a slick individual effort when he cut in on the goalie and roofed the puck from in-tight. Buckley would finish the scoring on a rebound in tight.
Both teams are back in action tomorrow. St. George’s hosts #3 Avon Old Farms in a big top-5 matchup, and Roxbury Latin hosts Moses Brown at 3 p.m. in West Roxbury.
