Joel Cormier

EHL Video Scout

Joel Cormier joins Neutral Zone as an EHL video scout for the 2024-2025 season, bringing over two decades of coaching and scouting experience. He has coached at all levels of the game, including Midget AAA, Junior A, and collegiate club hockey, winning multiple championship titles and five provincial championships. He spent three years teaching, coaching, and working as a houseparent at Notre Dame in Wilcox, Saskatchewan, and is a former program coordinator of the Saskatchewan Hockey Association. Cormier’s scouting experience includes work with the Canadian National Junior Team at the Canada Winter Games, the Saskatchewan Hockey Association, and as an ECHL scout for the Tampa Bay Lightning.

A tenured professor with over 20 years of experience teaching sport management in the Northeastern and Midwestern United States, Cormier is currently the program director of sport management at Eastern Kentucky University. He is also the published author of the book Hockey (Mid)night in Kentucky and has presented on many hockey-specific topics at national sport management conferences.

Born and raised in Prince Edward Island, Cormier currently resides in the Midwestern United States with his wife and daughter. When not teaching or scouting hockey, he enjoys traveling, running in 5Ks, and watching his daughter compete in sports.
