Tyler grew up in Midland, MI, spending most of his childhood at various hockey rinks around Michigan while he and his three siblings all played hockey. He attended Eastern Michigan University, where he graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in Sports Management. During his time at Eastern, he participated in an internship scouting program with International Scouting Services (ISS Hockey), eventually becoming a part-time scout and later a mentor scout with ISS Hockey.
For the 2017-18 season, Tyler began working with the Humboldt Broncos of the SJHL as a data analyst and data tracker. After the Humboldt tragedy, Tyler transitioned to an internship with the Arizona Coyotes in the NHL, where he scouted goaltending prospects for the 2020 NHL Draft, tracking shots and locations. He also contributed additional information to the Arizona analytics department. After working with Arizona, Tyler started a family before transitioning back to scouting with Neutral Zone, beginning work as a Video Scout in 2023.
