The Esso Cup Midget National Championship was held from April 21st through to the 27th in Sudbury, Ontario. The national tournament had the host Sudbury Lady Wolves competing against five regional champions - Halifax Fire (Atlantic), As de Québec (Québec), Stoney Creek Sabres (Ontario), Saskatoon Stars (West), and St. Albert Slash (Pacific) - to determine Canada's best Midget team. St. Albert captured an unprecedented third straight Esso Cup over Sudbury, with Stoney Creek winning bronze in a dramatic shootout over Saskatoon.
