BC High Rolls Past St. John’s (Shrewsbury) 5-1

Boston, MA – BC High used a complete effort to down St. John’s of Shrewsbury 5-1 at UMass-Boston’s Ice Center on Saturday afternoon.

The home team raced out to a 4-0 lead on two goals by Aidan Carey (Braintree, MA) and single tallies by Thomas Kramer (Bridgewater, MA), and Max DaSilva (Hanover, MA).  The first two goals (Kramer and Carey) came off slick backdoor feeds. The next two (Carey and DaSilva) were from outside shots that snuck through the Pioneers goaltender.

St. John’s (S) was able to get a goal back before the end of the second frame as Dhillon Wilde (Northborough, MA) outmuscled a BC High defender and centered the puck to Timothy Farley (Paxton, MA) who beat Chase Congdon (Hingham, MA) with a well placed shot.

BC High would finish the scoring in the third period when CJ Martin (Milton, MA) finished a one-time pass from Thomas Kramer in the slot.

NZ Take

Overall, the game was never in question. BC High’s skill and speed were too much for the Pioneers. The Eagles have several talented underclassmen who are expected to contribute to the offense. The Kramer twins (Joseph and Peter) are two slick forwards that can make plays off the cycle down low. They are constantly around the puck in the offensive zone and do a good job of getting the puck to the net. We also liked Brian Bulger (Norwell, MA). The sophomore forward was all over the ice and made some nice plays in transition. He takes good angles on the puck and competes hard. On the back-end, freshman Declan Loughnane (Milton, MA) had a good showing. He sees the ice well and snaps passes around the zone. He will need to play with more urgency but is a name to watch going forward.

For the visitors, there were a few bright spots on a tough afternoon. Wilde has a high compete level and works hard pressuring the puck. Matthew Myers (Worcester, MA) is a slick forward who can create off-the-rush and made some nice plays through the neutral zone. Timothy Farley is a long, strong winger that gets up and down the ice well. He does well driving the net and making direct plays.

Three Stars

  1. Aidan Carey, BC High
  2. Max DaSilva, BC High
