BCHL: Alberni Valley at Langley

General Game Notes: A low scoring game that had no scoring in the first period, and two special team goals in the second. Langley was able to take this home in third period using momentum that they gained on their only power play goal. This was game was extremely evenly matched in almost every category of the game, except for the final score.

Gleb “Hlib” ArtsatbanovAlberni Valley BulldogsBCHLRG6’2″172Donetsk. UKR2004Not yet rated

Game Grade: A-

Comments: Even though him and his team were not successful tonight, Artsatbanov deserves a ton a credit giving his team a fighting chance for sixty minutes. The big man takes up a ton of space, his shot first blocking style makes it hard for players to get quality chances on initial shots but when he does not handle the shots correctly, the quality chances happen at his feet where he is a little slower to recognize. Tonight he was not beat bad, a power play goal shot from the point with tons a screens, he stayed athletic and battled after goals let up and showed fight to be counted on.

Mason CroucherAlberni Valley BulldogsBCHLLD6’1″181RIT | 2024Victoria, BC2004Not yet rated

Game Grade: B+

Comments: Croucher was able to show tonight that he is a confident puck mover with no issues running a play himself and starting a transition up-ice. At times, he is looking to make the high percentage play which adds more risk to his game and was noted by a couple odd man rushes back the other way where he is chasing. Good thing was that tonight, he created scoring chances for his team by beating guys with shots at the point, passes through the middle, basically anyway he could find a way to spread the ice he did.

Hayden StavroffAlberni Valley BulldogsBCHLRRW5’10”201Dartmouth | 2025Dublin, OH20042023-2024: C
2021-2022: C

Game Grade: A-

Comments: Stavroff can shoot the puck. What he did really well tonight was enter the zone with speed and shoot the puck quickly off one foot. Sometimes it would be his back foot but he can catch goalies and blocking defenseman off guard with his front foot as well. He is a threat on the power play with time and space when he has the type of shot he has. Nothing happened tonight on their special teams but you can tell from the chances created that him and his unit are only a couple inches away from having a high quality power play.

Lucas BuzziolAlberni Valley BulldogsBCHLRC6’0″185Union | 2024Mississauga, ON20042021-2022: C

Game Grade: B+

Comments: Scored a nice short handed goal tonight getting on his absolute horse and being extremely hard to play against, even on the penalty kill. What he does on special teams that is the same even strength is look to disrupt the flow of the play for the other team. His relentless pursuit of the puck or player makes his opponent cough up the puck sometimes a little early. His larger frame and willingness to get into dirty areas also helps the overall grit of his game.

Cole BishopAlberni Valley BulldogsBCHLLLW6’0″192Moncton Wildcats | 2022Franklin, TN20052022-2023: C

Game Grade: B-

Comments: Bishop showed tonight that he has good size and speed. He always knows when someone is coming to hit him and usually has the strength to withstand the check or reverse the player. At times, he takes focus off the puck and solely focuses on the check, causing some unforced turnovers when he could manage the puck that is sitting at his feet. When he has the time and space the get up to speed, he can be a force to work with on the rush.

Nicholas BeneteauAlberni Valley BulldogsBCHLRC6’3″193St. Lawrence | 2024Windsor, ON20032022-2023: C

Game Grade: B

Comments: Beneteau has had better games, with that being said, with his skills and tools he has in his game, he still managed to displayed high quality hockey plays. He rarely got bumped off the puck, embracing contact and most of the time, initiating it. This creates the space he needs to make plays, even though he is one of the bigger players on the ice, he has deceiving foot speed in small areas. He seems patient with the puck in the offensive zone, does not often force things, and can hold on to the puck the extra second that some of the smaller players cannot do.

Mason BeaupitLangley RivermanBCHLLG6’5″191Spokane Chiefs | 2018Surrey, BC20032021-2022: C
2022 round 4 #108 overall by San Jose Sharks

Game Grade” A

Comments: Beaupit did a good job at challenging shooters, you could tell he was confident early. He was able to pop out quickly but drift back into position as the shooter would gain position at the net. Had trouble with some rebounds but rightly so when those shots were placed in tough spots to get a freeze. What stood out about his game was how well he handled being on the penalty kill, he embraced the phrase ‘fourth killer’ by managing time on the clock with playing the puck and freezing it.

Luke AshtonLangley RivermanBCHLLD6’5″230North Vancouver, BC20052023-2024: C

Game Grade: A

Comments: Player of the game tonight, and a lot of nights. Ashton showed tonight that his skating ability will dictate how well he plays night in and night out, tonight he moved his feet and attacked ice when he had the puck. He is explosive in all three zones, even at his size, and can create a gap from the opponent with 2 steps. He moved the puck well tonight also, in the neutral zone, he made heads up plays leading his teammates with time and space, and in the offensive zone, was able to find seams and little pop plays. He was at his best when he was active along the blue line sometimes ragging it through the entire offensive zone.

Vitaly LevyyLangley RivermanBCHLRF5’11”170Sacred Heart | 2024Old Brookville, NY20032020-2021: C

Game Grade: A-

Comments: One of the more skilled players for the Riverman, but also a player who does a good job at getting lost of the net front. He stays loose in scoring areas, making hit hard for opponents to pick him up when his team has full control. He recognized puck staring from the other team and will creep back door or high slot giving himself time and space to create a shot or find a seam himself. His best asset tonight was his ability to move the puck. He snaps pucks on blades and does not hesitate to make first pass, on entries he can make the cross ice dish, and in zone, a little backhand saucer.

Aaron ReiersonLangley RivermanBCHLRLW6’1″165Moorhead, MN2005Not yet rated

Game Grade: B

Comments: Reierson plays a typical power forward role who goes to the net hard and can play with the contact that the role brings. Tonight, he did a good job at puck protection both on picking the puck up in corners where he uses his body to seal off players which gives him and extra second to make a play. Also, when driving to the net, not many times does he have the speed on entries to beat defenseman wide but when he did tonight, he lowered his shoulder has the strength to get it to the top of the crease. Like to see his same drive in the face off circle, couple times tonight they lost possession due to an easy puck battle.

Gabriel GuilbaultLangley RivermanBCHLRD6’2″163Burnaby, BC20062023-2024: C+

Game Grade: B+

Comments: Guilbault showed tonight that he likes to plays a power game and possesses the puck control and size to extend possession along the wall and corner. He took over plays when he would invite players into his space, create contact, and beat them out of the corner. Guilbault has good enough feet and is able to surprise with his speed. He uses his strength and reach to guard the puck, driving his way around the offensive zone all doing this with his head up looking to make a play or attack the net.

Oskar KomarovLangley RivermanBCHLRRW5’10”177Uusikaarlepyy, FIN2003Not yet rated

Game Grade: B+

Comments: Komarov is an Explosive and dynamic offensive talent and was arguably the most creative player in this game tonight. He competes hard with every shift, and has the dynamic puck skills to keep up with his creativity. What he did really well tonight was isolate attack defenseman on the rush. Instead of heading straight on, he will change his angle and isolate a defender creating two on ones. He knows his skill and is often seen forcing more complicated plays that the opposition, he has some risk to his game but tonight the reward came out on top. He was not able to get on the board tonight but he was able to create a ton of chances.
