Chase Clark – Long Term Watch

Neutral Zone NHL’s Ian Moran’s comments, December 2020: Chase is a big goalie and we all know goalies can take longer. He was an athletic dominant player as a young kid, grew to 6’4″, went through some awkwardness, but now he looks strong and confident. He battles through contact without losing concentration and he absolutely fights to grab rebounds. Goalies take longer and Chase is finding himself to be fundamentally sound and relying on his mind rather than bouncing all over the crease. He’s a player I look forward to following closely.

USPHL NCDC Goalie Reports (11/3/20 – 11/17/20), December 29, 2020: The Williamsville, NY native comes over to the powerhouse New Jersey Hitmen program after spending last season with the Buffalo Jr Sabres of the OJHL. Chase stopped 44 of 45 shots in his start against the Rockets. Clark is able to play a relaxed style because of his height and the visibility it gives him over the traffic in front of the net. Chase has very strong pushes and quick leg pads which take away the bottom of the net. He plays a controlled and composed style within the crease, rarely caught wandering or out of position. Clark also has a strong and fundamentally sound RVH which eliminates wrap arounds and low tight shot attempts. Really liked Clark’s effort on every puck as even when he lost sight of it in scrums, he still recovered, stayed calm and got a whistle somehow. Great size, good hands and still has room to grow and develop as he’s only an 02. Tons of long term potential here with Chase. The 6’4 netminder has proven to give the Hitmen one of the best 1-2 punches in the league this year with Beaver and Clark. Grade: A

USPHL NCDC Goalie Reports (10/26/20 – 11/2/20), November 2020: The big man from Williamsville, New York is calm and composed in the crease as he gets low in his crouch and keeps his hands out. Feet are controlled as he slides well with the play and absorbs pucks with ease. Clark isn’t the quickest on his feet but he is smooth laterally and utilizes his size to his advantage. Positioning is his bread and butter. He doesn’t come too far out in his crease and stays patient when reading the shooter’s blade. C cuts and gets deep on his inside edges to come out and get square. Great hands and does a good job of managing his rebounds and steering them out of dangerous areas. Clark has a tendency to drop quick off the initial shot which caused him to struggle when recovering laterally to the next shot. The former Buffalo Jr Sabre has strong technique, good hands and loads of upside but he needs to work on getting reset after the initial and battling more to see pucks through traffic. Grade: B

USA Hockey Select 16 National Development Camp, July 2018: Chase is a tall, long, athletic right glove goalie who came to camp after a highly touted minor midget season with Toronto Nationals where he was drafted in the ninth round of the OHL Draft. He has quick reflexes for his size, moves well side to side and is very sharp down low.  He let up only one goal through his first two games but his last two games let up 7 goals on 41 shots. He’s better than his stats indicate and made a lot of tough saves.

GTHL 2017 Prospects All-Star Game, December 2017: Stellar in the second half of the game. Big goaltender who takes up a lot of the net. Controlled his rebounds well. Well-deserved player of the game for Team Navy. Was very effective in his rebound control and competed hard during some periods of great pressure.
