Andre Gasseau | NTDP U18 | USHL | L | F | 6’4″ | 205 | Boston College | 2021 | Garden Grove, CA | 2003 | 2020-2021: B- |
Neutral Zone NHL’s Ian Moran’s comments, December 2020: In my opinion Andre plays like a pro right now and has has developed that mentality over the past few years. Although he only has 10 PIMS so far this year he is full of grit and the type of sandpaper that is tough to play against and wears opponents down over a seven game series. I love how he stops on every puck and leads with his stick through contact. We’ve seen his stride get more explosive over the past 16 months and I expect to see his quickness and explosiveness improve over the next few years as well. An NHL organization is going to love that he’s going to Boston College because he is going to be training and competing with like minded players who want National league careers every day.
Neutral Zone NHL’s Brian Murphy’s comments, November 2020: I’m a huge fan of Gasseau. He plays the type of hard direct game that BC needs in their line-up. He is strong with a heavy stick. He wins net front battles in both zones and has the pro mentality to wear people down. His improvement over the past few seasons has been quite dramatic as he seemed to explode at Shattuck St. Mary’s and literally began to dominate games.
NTDP: U18 vs. St. Cloud and Aberdeen vs. Austin, October 2020: Gasseau is a big center and plays with a physical edge and does the little things correctly. He did really well in the faceoff circle which allowed his team to establish pressure in the offensive zone and breakout of the defensive zone with ease. Gasseau’s speed allowed him to pressure opposing defencemen on the forecheck, and force turnovers often. He forechecks leading with his stick and goes through the body which didn’t allow opposing players to make plays. He also possesses a hard heavy shot that is difficult for goalies to control, and lead to many secondary opportunities this weekend. Grade: B
U15: USHL Fall Classic, October 2018: Strong powerful strides, plays a power forward game. Always in the mix offensively, creates offensive with deceptive feeds to dangerous areas. Finds space, has a heavy shot, takes a hit to make a play, puts pucks on whenever possible and drives net. Needs to find a consistent effort in his game as he disappeared at times. Rank: B
U14 Nationals, April 2018: Gasseau is a smooth skater and slick with the puck. Showed speed with size and was able to protect the puck and ride his edges to the net. He was very good on the power play. His hands are soft and he seldom had to dust off the puck as his touches were consistent and the puck stuck to his stick. Was a factor in each of the three games we watched. He is tall and skinny with good sense and that’s the sort of player at this age that has nice upside. Someone to watch as he fills into his frame. Has a silky element to his game we liked.
