Emmanuel Vermette

Vermette is a physically mature left shot left wing. He has a bit of an inside edge skating base with an upright posture. He has above average speed, but we feel that he has very good acceleration when he is the puck carrier and needs to change pace. On line rushes he understands that puck needs to attack the center lane and he will adjust his route to carry the puck to the middle or move the puck quickly to his middle lane option. Once the puck is on his stick Vermette has shown a quick release and he has a varying release point that seems to get goaltenders leaning to their left which allows him to confidently beat goalies to their right. He is averaging 2.6 shots per game for 66 shots on the season with 30 of those coming from inside of the slot and seven of his eight goals have come from between and below the hashmarks. His other goal was an empty netter versus Blainville-Boisbriand with 1:40 left in the third period. Vermette is not a bone crusher, but he likes to initiate contact and will fight through bodies on his way to the net. At this point we view Vermette as a “C” rated 2023 NHL Draft prospect. In professional hockey he projects as a bottom six energy forward so he will need to continue developing his skating base, his first three steps and elongating his stride to improve his odds of having a professional career. And truthfully as a 200′ left wing who will need to be very detailed defensively we feel it is a bit concerning that he has not yet gained the confidence of his Chicoutimi coaches to be used as a primary penalty kill option.
