Neutral Zone NHL’s Ian Moran, March 14, 2023: He plays a hard abrasive game that doesn’t earn him a ton of penalty minutes, but he does draw penalties because he is pain in the butt to play against. He is very willing to do battle in the extended slot, but interestingly so far this season he has only scored two goals from the top of the crease. To me this says he gets engaged in the battle and kind of loses awareness of what’s going on around him. This could all change once he adds some meat to his bones, but a drafting team is going to have to find out if he gets distracted doing the extra curriculars and can he stay focused on the play simply because the transition game in the National League is so fast.
U18: 5 Nation Tournament, November 8-14, 2022: : Not a big point producer but Hugo has decent size ant 6′ and 180 pounds and brings some bite and a willingness to play in the dirty areas to the game. His skating is solid, with decent mobility and league average speed. He keeps his game pretty simple, win a battle, move the puck quickly and head to the net. His skill set is decent and he does not try to overhandle the puck. He battles hard for pucks low in the offensive zone and he battles hard on contented pucks wrapped around the boards in his end. He uses his stick effectively when checking, but would benefit by adding more physicality to his game. (Scout: Marlin Muylaert)
