Jakub Stancl | Vaxjo | SHL | L | LW | 6’3″ | 201 | Praha, CZE | 2005 | 2022-2023: B- |
U18: Czechia vs Finalnd, December 27, 2022: Stancl totaled 16:32 in ice time including 1:03 while on the power play and 2:40 while shorthanded. The 6’3″ left wing was a presence all night as he finished with two goals including an open netter with just under one minute left in the third while protecting a one goal lead. His first goal came off of a quick transitional 2on1 where he came down his off wing and opened up before ripping a one-timer that the goalie had no chance on. Stancl had a a few mishandles of the puck while in open ice, but we liked his willingness to attack the center on line rushes. He finished the game +1 with 2 goals, 2 shots, 1 grade “A”, 2 PIMs for slashing his opponent’s stick out of his hands, 1/1 on face-offs, 1 hit, had 1 shot blocked, 5 giveaways, 3 takeaways and he won 62% of his 8 puck battles.
U18: 5 Nation Tournament, November 8-14, 2022: We thought Jakub demonstrated very good upside potential with his performance at this tournament. He s a big bodied left shot left winger who at 6’3 and 200 pounds already is playing in a man’s body. He possesses a very strong skating stride and with his skating and size we like him as a power forward candidate. He makes good use of his powerful legs and big body by finishing hits in all zone, protecting pucks and using his reach and his size for leverage over opponents in battle situations. He was one of Czechia’s offensive drivers in our viewings, getting into the offensive zone quickly and being a force behind the net and in the corners working to strip pucks from opponents. He is a good mucker and will go to the blue paint to be disruptive and to try and score goals. He seems adept at both scoring and playmaking, and along with his size and physicality would make a great winger who can do some heavy lifting playing with smaller more skilled players. Jakub was also depended on to kill penalties and he was very good, using stop-start and good first 3 steps to be active in puck lanes, blocking shot lanes and forcing passes.
