Marek Chvatal | HC Sparta Praha U20 | Czech U20 | L | D | 5’11” | 165 | Jihlava | 2003 | 2020-2021: C |
Neutral Zone NHL’s Ian Moran’s comments, February 2021: Marek has really quick feet and excellent lateral mobility. His gaps are tight and he uses an active stick to force turnovers rather foolishly run out of position looking for a big hit. He certainly skates well enough and locates transitional passing lanes quick enough to garner NHL eyes, but they will be looking at his lack of production and be wondering if they can draft a larger defender who can fill the same role.
Neutral Zone’s Ed Besinger, June 2021: Marek is a Czech defender that checks in at 5’11’’ and 165 pounds. He is a left- shot and played this past season for HC Sparta Praha U20 in the Czech U20 League. He also played two games Internationally for the Czech U18 team. He is scheduled to play next season for HC Sparta Praha in the Czech 1 League. He is a smaller puck-moving defender that is athletic and has quick feet. He plays with pace and looks to take ice whenever possible. He handles the puck well at speed and can beat defenders through the neutral zone and on zone entries. He is balanced and defends with his feet. Great first step and skilled stick to break-up plays and start the transition the other way. Facilitates through the middle of the ice and is able to identify the right passing option quickly. He takes chances because he is able to use his speed to recover. Runs around a bit in his own zone and will need to get stronger in order to defend more effectively in his own end.
