New England Prep Players on NZ’s 2020 NHL Draft Watch List

Take a look at in game player notes and what they mean in the overall evaluation.

Below are the names of the players we feel NHL teams took notice of and where we rank them after their New England Prep season.

NAMEHWPOSITIONTEAMGRADE+/-IM Notes
90Ian Moore6”2″171DEFENSEMANST. MARK’S SCHOOLBEBig Athletic, + Feet

Obviously Ian is a bid defender, but we are always impressed by how athletic he is. He has great lateral agility and closes quickly. His feet are a plus and are going to continue to improve.

170Lucas Mercuri6’3″192RIGHT WINGSALISBURYC++Big boi, Won Championship, Feet v D

“Big boi” – Simply, Lucas put the team first. It was obvious that winning meant more than anything else to him. “Feet v D” – Dexter is a skating team that thrived all season on speed & their transition. Lucas had no issues with the smaller athletic team and there were a few times that he pulled away from from backchecking Dexter forwards. Big Boi is right.

174Aidan Thompson5’10”161LEFT WINGBERKSHIREC+EStones, HA, Touch, Feet, +PK

Stones – Aiden showed heart, blocked shots and took hits to make plays, “HA” – played through an injury in the New Englands that has shut NHLers down. You have to like it. Great 1st touch. Can fly, even with a lower body injury. LOVED how he killed penalties.. ate pucks, active stick, pressured at the correct times “Asses & Eyes”

176Ryan McGuire6’1″180CENTERBELMONT HILLC++Brain, Feet, Strong, Shooter, 6’2″

Ryan plays a smart 2 way game. His skating and quickness are better than he’s given credit for. Fights through contact to make plays. He can RIP the puck off of any type of pass.. his 1 timer is a cannon. Looks like he’s grown.

180Alex Jefferies5’11”185RIGHT WINGGUNNERYC+EWall, Pele under bar, Hardy?

Alex makes smart decisions on the wall and doesn’t force plays by showing the strength to extend plays. Pele – is a direct reference to a goal he scored v Pomfret in the finals. “Hardy” – he reminds me of a player. He’s not as big as him, but they play a similar game.

185John Fusco5’11”180DEFENSEMANDEXTERC++Poise, +V, Feet, Release, SSS

John has puck poise, great vision, quick feet & can shoot from anywhere. And “SSS” – short side shelf goal v Berkshire was a beauty. He is an ideal modern professional defenseman.

192Jarod Crespo6’0″207DEFENSEMANSALISBURYC+Single Cap, R, 1X, Won it

Jarod was the only Captain on Salisbury. Why it matters? Most prep teams have 4 guys wearing the “C”, not Salisbury. On an older team that won it, he was the “C”. He has a a bullet, quick release, 1 timer is hard and on net. And again, his post game celebration was phenomenal.

203Jacob Quillan5’9″165CENTERSALISBURYCEPK, Touch, V, BS, Champ

Jacob blocked shots while on the PK, has a smooth 1st touch, has excellent vision and ice awareness and Won the championship.

207Douglas Grimes6’3″190RIGHT WINGDEXTERC+Edge, Compete, 220

Dougie is so effective when he plays with an attitude / edge. I love it when he is playing in your face hockey. He is a horse and can intimidate. And there is no doubt about his competitiveness.. he wants to win. “220” – he’s going to play professionally around 220lbs.

208Philip Tresca5’11”175CENTERRIVERSCESkills for days, 37B

Philip has foolish skills and poise, but he plays a 2 way game that he does not get credit for.

214Michael Fairfax6’2″195CENTERSALISBURYE3/8DNP, horse

Michael is a horse. He wins battles and works every shift. DNP in finals because of illness.

242Riley Duran6’2″181CENTERLAWRENCEC+Big atletic, will get drafted, C+

Pretty self explanatory. Riley plays with the pace & determination that every NHL Team craves. He is a ‘C’ rated prospect right now, but that will be changing.

251Casey Severo5’11”174CENTERNOBLESC2/12Smart, 2 way, R, Draws

This kid is smart and clever. He baits guys into turnovers by changing angles and having quick feet. He’s a 2 way player who wins draws and has a bullet.

260Jack Cronin5’10”175RIGHT WINGNOBLESCEShooter, Shooter, 1X, R, F, Spring

Jack is a shooter. Plain & simple… when he gets the puck, its on net making the goalie make a save. “Spring” – his legs have springs in them.

261Owen Fowler5’10”190LEFT WINGGOVERNOR’SCEBull, Drive, C, Crap

Owen drives the net and is a bull while he’s heading there. Maximum compete and he does not take crap from anyone.

263David Sacco6’1″195CENTERLAWRENCECESmart, plays like a pro, 1st touch, WS

David doesn’t run around wasting effort. He reads his linemates and goes where they are not. Often times he ends up with puck and has all day to make a play. Good first touch. “WS” – he reminds of a player in the Juniors who gets a lot of attention and I think David has the potential be better than him.

265Ronan Walsh6’3″192RIGHT WINGPROCTORCECan be as good as he wants to be

Ronan has the tools to be a pro and be a good one.

276Tabor Heaslip5’8″157LEFT WINGAVON OLD FARMSCEWheels, C, E, Smooth

Tabor can fly, he competes, has excellent game energy and is very smooth. Really like watching him play.

277Kennedy O’Connor6’3″197DEFENSEMANLOOMIS CHAFFEECED-1st, Compete, Outlets, Won it

Kennedy thinks about his end first. He battles, makes quick outlets and was a huge piece of Loomis winning their championship.

279Edward Baliotti6’3″181GOALIEBERKSHIREC+Quick Laterally, but stays in the paint, WOW factor

Pretty clear. “WOW factor” – he made write WOW every game I saw.

280Kyle Furey6’0″165DEFENSEMANLAWRENCEC+Upside, Athletic, Watch

Kyle has improved an incredible amount and we thinks it’s going to continue. We will keep watching him.

288Cole Teleki6’1″190DEFENSEMANLAWRENCECEWatch more, upside

Similar to his teammate Kyle Furey… there is a lot to like about his long term potential.

295Liam Connors5’8″152CENTERST. SEBSTIAN’SCEQuick, competitive, Backhand

Liam is quick and competitive. He battles every shift. His backhand is legit and gives him options.
