Comments: Ryerson had a 30-save shutout against Flint, making many big saves along the way. He is a very calm goalie who gets himself into the correct position and does not take any extra movements. He is square to the puck and takes away shooting angles. He made saves on backdoor plays and breakaways while never seeming to scramble or get lost in the net. He has always has an air of calmness which allows him to quietly be ready for anything that comes his way. He also used his stick very well to prevent pass outs from below the goal line. He stopped at least three pass outs by using an active stick and not allowing pucks to come from below the goal line into the slot. Although the game was a victory with a large margin, much of this was thanks to his standout performance. The final shots were 30-30 and Ryerson turned away all of the shots he faced.

Comments: Ben drives down the walls in the offensive zone, scanning the ice, and making smart passes. He had an assist in this fashion by making a great pass to the backdoor after driving down the wall. He then had another similar play where he didn’t have a good passing option but read that he had a lane to the net and cut in near the post and tried to stuff the puck. He makes solid passes all over the ice and moves the puck to his open options without anything fancy. He defends well and is always engaged in the defensive zone.

Comments: Zachary defends well, keeping a tight gap and using his good stick to limit chances. He defends well in both rush and in-zone situations, stepping up aggressively on opponents and leading with his stick to take away their time and space. He also moves the puck well, especially on regroups where he works well with his partner and makes hard, accurate passes. He had one shot on net from the point but did not create much offense in this game and spent four minutes in the penalty box.

Comments: Adam is a dynamic, puck-moving defenseman who plays with good pace. He moves the puck with strength and accuracy, quickly identifying options to get the puck up ice, often making quick-up passes on the regroup. His footwork and skating are both strong as he can get onto his edges and be deceptive with the puck. He can get his feet and hands around the puck easily, making him a threat to move the puck to all areas of the ice quickly. He takes opportunities to cut into the offensive zone when he has space. Adam is patient with the puck when he doesn’t have a quick option and he will skate with it and use deception to buy himself time and space to make a play. He had an assist with a nice offensive zone pass. In the defensive zone he boxes out well, keeping the front of the net clear for his goalie to see pucks.

He took seven shots on net in this game and many of them came from dangerous areas. He scored a goal on a backdoor one-timer. He also had a breakaway chance and two chances after walking the high seam and shooting from the slot. On one of these plays he waited for a defenseman to slide and then shot after he slid past him, showing good patience and awareness with the puck. He is confident with the puck on his stick and can make quick moves through defenders to keep possession of the puck. He also plays with his head up so he is able to recognize his options quickly and can make good passes. He made a nice diagonal pass in the offensive zone with his head up. Comments: Vladimir breaks the puck out with awareness and skates the puck up the middle of the ice. His feet are quick and it allows him to use the net and then get around forecheckers and get up ice quickly. He also has good speed to skate the puck up the ice and push the pace through the neutral zone. He picked up an assist in the win with a nice pass across the royal road in the offensive zone and he had another nice hinge to his partner along the blue line that showed his awareness. Vladimir did make one risky turnover in the defensive zone that led to a quality scoring chance against. On the rushes he played the body well and limited the opponents’ chances.

Comments: Jake sees the ice very well and makes nifty passes to create chances. He can handle the puck well which helps him to create passing lanes but his vision is what really sets him apart. He can identify passing lanes quickly and made many smart passes. One of his most notable plays from this game was along the wall in the offensive zone where he cut back with the puck, made a quick deke to fool a defender, and then moved the puck on his backhand through the triangle of the opponent’s stick and body to his defenseman at the blue line. His ability to make plays in tight spaces makes him dangerous even in seemingly safe situations on the perimeter. Jake scored a goal in this game on a quick catch and shoot on a pass that came across the royal road. He under-handled the puck and fired it high past the goalie on the short side. He also had an assist on the last goal of the game in which he helped created a turnover high on the offensive zone. He almost had another assist with some great 2v1 passing that resulted in a backdoor chance.

Comments: Marek is a dangerous forward who attacks quickly in transition. He combines speed, vision, and toughness allowing him to create chances in many different ways. He finds good spots on the backdoor behind defenders and gets good chances from there. He also create chances by going hard to the net with his stick on the ice. He works to make his stick available in pressure situations and is able to receive passes and deflect pucks in traffic situations. Marek scored a goal on a rush by driving hard to the net-front and deflecting a puck right at the top of the crease, tipping it up and over the goalie. He almost had another goal on a 2v1 pass on the backdoor but his shot rang off of the post and out. He scored another goal on a deceptive play where he faked a drop pass to get the opponent to bite and then he cut in towards the net and used the defender as a screen, firing a hard shot top-shelf.

Comments: Luca is a speedy, physical winger who makes simple plays and does his job all over the ice. He finishes his checks and likes to play physically. Along the wall in the defensive zone he makes good reads and will chip the puck out into safe space when he doesn’t have time. When he does have more time and space he is patient with the puck and will use his straight-line speed to get up ice. He scored a goal by beating the opponent up ice with his speed and going hard to the net.

Comments: Christopher plays with an urgency to get to the net and has quick, hard wrist shot. He rushes and takes his ice in the middle, driving inside the dots to make plays on zone entries. He collected a loose puck in the neutral zone and attacked quickly in transition, getting a shot off. He plays with toughness and uses his body to get into the middle of the ice when he can. He can work to improve his angling as he was beat on the forecheck because he cheated towards the corner. He can also sometimes make better decisions with the puck on his stick. He had one play in particular where he got inside the dots on a rush and forced a pass instead of taking his good shooting lane.

Comments: Jimmy distributed the puck well, often using his backhand to dish the puck to teammates. His ability to make passes on his backhand makes him a threat because he gets into the middle of the ice and can then use options all over the ice. He had some plays down low in the offensive zone where he tried to create offense from the low seam but just couldn’t connect on the passes. Another example of his ability to get his body around the puck and make plays was a nice spin and shoot he executed in the offensive zone. He backchecked hard and work on the defensive side of the puck too.

Comments: Darian was involved in a lot of the offensive production for Flint, getting a couple of shots on net and making many passes to set up scoring chances. He plays with urgency and a strong work ethic which makes him very noticeable when he is on the ice. He gets pucks across the royal road to create chances on the rush and he also makes pass back across his body, skating one way and dishing it the other. He made one of these plays where he skated across the front of the net and then slid the puck back to a teammate, trying to catch the goalie moving the wrong direction. He made passes to the backdoor and to dangerous areas putting the pressure on Brantford to defend and forcing the goalie to make some nice saves. In the defensive zone he used his stick well to take away passing lanes and protected the middle of the ice well.

Comments: Urban is a dynamic two-way defenseman who moves the puck well. He is a smooth skater, getting onto his edges to move well in all directions, and possessing both quick feet and separation speed. He uses his skating to be very effective at defending rushes and in-zone plays. He forces opponents to the walls and pushes them away from the net. When he has the puck on his stick he quickly identifies passing lanes and makes hard, accurate passes to his teammates. When he has space to skate it he does so and can use his speed to get past opponents on the breakout and zone entries. He pays close attention to the defensive-side of the puck but does not shy away from jumping into the offense as well. Urban drives down the walls with the puck in the offensive zone and then makes good centering passes. He quarterbacks the powerplay for his team, moving the puck well and showing his mobility along the blue line. He can work on getting his stick on the puck on one-on-one rushes to prevent shooting lanes. One of the goals against could have been prevented if his stick had been extended towards the puck.
