Game played on 12/01/2024.
General Game Notes: This high scoring game was the Teddy Bear toss game in Oshawa. The final of 8-5 was for the Generals but the shots heavily leaned in favor of Kingston with over 50 for.
Nolan Lalonde (G, R, 6’1″, 192, Kingston Frontenacs, 02/14/2004)
Grade: B+
Comments: Lalond has a very strong demeanour in the net. He is often very calm and does not seem to get upset in the net. He has decent size but is very athletic as shown by his ability to move side to side across the net. Along with his athleticism Nolan shows a great understanding of reading the play in front of him which plays an important part in his quickness. Nolan can identify where the scoring chances are in as the play develops. The NHL signed goalie is one of the top goalies playing in the OHL.
Gage Heyes (RW, R, 5’11”, 180, Kingston Frontenacs, 04/21/2004)
Grade: B
Comments: The assistant captain for Kingston had a solid night, contributing in a variety of ways. He plays in all situations including the penalty kill, where he uses high work ethic and a strong stick to force clears and apply pressure. He isn’t shy to play physical either as he finished hits through the game and was a nuisance on the forecheck. Heyes was used as a center and a winger in this game, providing his versatility to play up and down the lineup and adapt to his situation. Gage isn’t necessarily a line-driving player but compliments linemates with subtle and strong plays to keep possession and allow line-mates to showcase their skill. His skating can continue to get more agile and quick paced as he doesn’t have the straight line speed to win every puck race, but he consistently puts in the effort and battle to win 50/50 opportunities. He is on pace for around 45 points this year , making him someone who can produce offensively while providing a 200ft effort.
Cedrick Guindon (C, L, 5’10”, 180, Kingston Frontenacs, 04/21/2004, Vermont)
Grade: A
Comments: Guindon had another really solid night, adding onto his 17 points in his last 8 games. His intelligence shines through in the offensive zone as he has ability to read defenses and find soft ice. Putting himself in good positions he consistently is supporting the puck and engaged in the play, where he seems to always be around high-danger opportunities. He had 2 goals in this game, his first being a one-timer on the powerplay as he drifted wide and let a quick release goal. His shot isn’t the most powerful but it is precise and let go quick to beat the goalie straight on. His second of the night, he found himself alone in open ice and grabbed a rebound to release it top shelf. Cedrick isn’t a line-driving forward but rather a cerebral thinker of the game as he beats teams with intelligence and a deceptive game. He is able to shift to open lanes well as he shows good agility and lateral quickness, often delaying or shifting to scoring areas. He isn’t the biggest player listed at 5’10, but the Montreal Canadiens prospect is able to play in all situations, as he is utilized on the penalty kill as well as his half-wall powerplay position. With high-end puck-handling, deceptiveness and offensive IQ, Guindon is sitting at 1.5 points per game and one of the leagues top scorers.
