Game played on 12/06/2024.
General Game Notes: This is a report on the overage forwards for the SOO Greyhounds. This was a 3-0 win for Kitchener in this Dec 6th matchup.
Charles Schenkel (G, R, 6’5″, 207, Soo Greyhounds, 08/16/2004)
Grade: B
Comments: Schenkel is a tall southpaw goalie who when he is on can be a difference maker for his team. Charlie is very athletic and moves well given his size. What is impressive with Charlie is his ability to stay cool under pressure. When he is on, he uses his big frame well to see through traffic. Charlie will need to continue to work on his lateral movement in tight though to continue to take his game to the next level. Charlie widens out his feet as the play gets in closer to him, which makes it hard for him to move laterally on plays in tight. Overall, Charlie has a lot of talent and the size to go with it. If he continues to improve his skating and lateral movement he can help teams win a lot of games.
Caeden Carlisle (D, L, 6’1″, 195, Soo Greyhounds, 01/31/2004)
Grade: B+
Comments: Carlisle was the best defensemen on the ice in this game and would have been given a higher grade, but was kicked out mid-way through due to a dangerous hit from behind. He is the captain for the SOO, playing with pace and elusiveness to drive transition. Caedan is consistently up in the play and activating from the back-end showing high confidence at this level. His acceleration and strong crossovers allow him to drive the play and lead rushes, often kicking wide and driving the middle lane. Defensively, he keeps players wide and is mobile enough to keep up with speedy forwards as he pressures to non-danger areas. He keeps his stick ahead of him and on the puck, as he maneuvers it to poke-check and disrupt. His mobility is his best asset, as he is highly athletic and able to jump to lanes and loose pucks. This makes him an above average transition player who can play effectively in both ends. With good size at 6’2 195, he is a modern day defender with size, athleticism and ability to jump forward. Playing big minutes with leadership, he is sitting at 0.5 points per game and impacts the game in a variety of ways. He is one of the top overage defenders in the OHL.
Owen Allard (C, L, 6’2″, 199, Soo Greyhounds, 01/13/2004)
Grade: B+
Comments: Allard is a signed Utah prospect, and had a solid game impacting in all situations. He is strong on the puck and uses his size well to corral pucks and put defenders on his back. Along the boards he uses this to gain seperation and space, where he can then use his slick skill in tight. Offensively, Owen gets to the net with intent and power, often beating defenders off the wall and putting his shoulder down to get to dirty areas. He is sitting exactly at a point per game on the season. Playing more of a power-forward game, he plays north-south and can apply pressure in all three zones. His 200 ft effort is strong, both 5-5 and on the penalty kill, as he uses a good stick and his size to disrupt plays in traffic. He has a high motor and can play with versatility, projecting as more of a checking forward at the next level with the ability to slide up and down the line-up. After playing in the World Juniors last season and signing with Utah, Allard will be playing pro hockey next season.
