WHL: Swift Current Broncos vs Medicine Hat Tigers, February 19, 2022: Dyck played well in his last game against Medicine Hat, making 26 of 28 saves in a 7-2 win. He looked big and confident all night, making many Grade A saves right from the start. He played with some edge in his game, as he competed and battled for every puck while moving around with authority in his crease. Another trait that stood out was his awareness of potential threats around the zone, communicating well to his teammates to tighten their coverage when time allowed. It was great to see Dyck get rewarded with a solid win after some tough results from his team over the past few months, as he will look to string together more strong performances and rack up some wins in the final stretch of the season. Grade: A-
U20: 2022 NHL Draft Eligible Goalie Report, December 8, 2021: Last 5 game snapshot- Dyck has found himself on a struggling Swift Current team in this first half of the season. He has let in 21 goals with a save percentage of 87.9% over his last five games. It is clear that he has had to go through some adversity this season with the team’s results so far, but this could be a good learning experience for him down the road. He has one win so far this year and will look to steal some more games for his team when he gets in the net. Dyck is a very good skater for his size and is quick to get across the crease on lateral plays with great agility. He has the ability to make smart reads and is generally good on the first shot because of his positioning and tracking. Better rebound control is one thing he can tighten up in his game to simplify the defensive zone play for his team, which is something to expect him to be able to do with more experience and confidence as the season goes on. He occasionally finds himself on his stomach while stretching to make saves in a scramble situation which puts him in a vulnerable position and limits his ability to get in position for the next save. Overall, Dyck is an impressive goalie with a great skill set who finds himself on a weak team that gives up a lot of grade A chances. He will be one to keep an eye on down the road that could be an outstanding goalie for a more competitive team.
WHL: Prince Albert Raiders vs Swift Current, November 19, 2021: Reid picked up the third star in the game after stopping 28 of the 31 shots he faced. A few of the saves were 10-bell with some incredibly athletic post-to-post movement. In tight he showed great anticipation and was able to follow the puck well. His low saves were very strong and both left and right pads were equally athletic. Where Reid had some issues was with the plays developing farther from the net. He lost the puck a few times in cross-ice passes and then fumbled a few point shots that hit him in the chest. For the most part Reid found himself square to the puck and limiting second-chance opportunities for Prince Albert. In times he left the net and in warm-up it was easy to see Reid is an above average skater and puck handler. There were a few times when communication could have been better between him and the defencemen, but overall it wasn’t an issue. Reid had a strong game and was the main reason the game was close. Grade B+
MJHL: Goalie Reports, December 20, 2020: Dyck has started to emerge as the starter for this Flyers team early on in the season. The 2004 netminder is only in his first season of junior but he has the size, technique and poise to be a force in this league. Dyck needs to develop and continue to clean his feet but he is extremely young and talented and has a ton of room for growth over the next few years. Reid does a very good job at holding his edges and keeping his depth on angles while reading plays and shots. He also does a very good job at recovering to his feet and resetting for secondary plays after the initial shot. As Dyck starts to get stronger in his lower body he will be much more explosive in his lateral movement. As he develops stronger core strength he also can be more balanced in his stance and keep his chest slightly more upright with less hinge in his hips. This will also help with his overall game of being able to control rebounds better and not getting as locked in at times with his hands. Dyck has a strong technique, good hands and deceptive flexibility to make stops. Lots of long term potential for the young man from Winkler. Grade: B
MJHL: Goalie Report, November 19, 2020: The rookie netminder from Winkler has shown great promise early on as he has great size, athleticism and poise in the cage for a 16 year old. Dyck stands tall at 6’4 with decent posture, calm feet and tight positioning. He reads the play very well and his lateral movement is strong, powerful and controlled. He showed this in the second period against Neepawa when he slid right to left on a 2v1 and made a nifty glove save to keep the game tied. His edgework is crisp, he is sharp on his angles, tight on posts and doesn’t cheat the pass. Dyck was very smooth and impressive when transitioning from his posts and plays behind the net to grade A chances out front as he comes out on top of his paint to challenge. He cuts down the angle well and did an excellent job of steering pucks out away with his stick. Stick positioning was excellent in our viewings as he protects down low, covers the 5 hole options and breaks up numerous passes and jam attempts. Something Dyck needs to work on is to not over commit to shots, certain plays and being a little more patient when the play moves outside. Dyck’s a 3rd round draft pick of Swift Current in the WHL and with his strong fundamentals and talent, he should be a nice piece for the Broncos in the future.
