Stephen Peck (G, L, 6’2″, 180, Muskegon Lumberjacks, 01/18/2005, Michigan)

Game Rating

A-

Stephen Peck showcases excellent goaltending skills through his ability to center his body well and maintain a calm composure in the crease. He has a compact stance with an upright chest that allows him to stay mobile and control rebounds effectively. His hands are active, enabling him to quickly adjust to puck movements and smother opportunities for second chances. However, he sometimes struggles with screens and pucks elevated to his hands, affecting his ability to track and save them. Overall, Peck’s stance differential and footwork are impressive assets, but he needs refinement in certain areas to reach his full potential.

Comments: Muskegon: Stephen Peck (2005) The Michigan Commit plays a fundamentally sound game with a little bit of confidence to it. His movement is powerful, crisp, and Precise as he centers his body on threats. Moving from a compact stance not only allows for powerful movement but for his weight to be centered and able to drop into pucks and stay reactive. Moving from a stance differential allows Peck to see through and above screens with his slightly over six-foot frame. Getting beat in tight on a rebound in this contest, but the Lumberjacks goaltender is very comfortable in an overlap, reverse, or maintaining his feet depending on the situation in awkward angles. Making shoulder checks and scans when pucks are in the zone but not as frequent on line rushes aid his precise movement and identifies threats. The only times the New York native gets in trouble is when his stance widens of, he doesn’t set his feet. A good performance here in the 3-2 win stopping 20 of 22. Grade: A-

Comments: NTDP USA U-17: Luke Carrithers (2008) The Maple grove Minnesota native was busy in this one and showed a calm demeanor and a very rounded skillset. Making countless big saves throughout the game and staying true to his game is where he finds success. His movement is powerful stemming from a condensed relaxed stance, the power from his movement sometimes causes a lack of precision in movement mostly on secondary actions. Just an inch over six foot he uses this size well and gains and loses depth appropriately. Centering his body with constant angle adjustments and the ability to drop into pucks helps maintain angles and squareness. Surrendering some rebounds and second chance opportunities in this contest but overall showing the tracking ability to do so. A solid performance stopping 40 of 43 and a solid base to build upon in the future. Grade: B+
