Jan Spunar (G, L, 6’3″, 185, Dubuque Fighting Saints, 05/30/2004)
Grade: A-
Comments: Dubuque: Jan Spunar (2004) The 20-year-old Czechian goaltender uses his size and calm presence in the crease to stay square to pucks and set his feet ton threats. His fundamentals are sound and creates a strong base to his game. An upright chest effectively controls his weight and covers the upper half of the net and ensures mobility. Backside looks, scans and visual communication with his teammates helps to identify threats. His scans tend to favor the strong side of the ice and not fully check backside opportunities. With his larger frame making movements smaller it does not make him much less effective without reads. Some relaxed stance and lack of attentiveness on plays in zone caught him surrendering a soft goal in this contest. Another solid performance, although not his best leads Dubuque to two points in the 4-3 win.
Daniel Moor (G, L, 6’2″, 188, Waterloo Black Hawks, 01/17/2006, Princeton)
Grade: B+
Comments: Waterloo: Daniel Moor (2006) The 2006 born Waterloo goaltender Daniel Moor has condensed and fluid movement that stems from a more athletic base to his game. His hands and chest don’t provide the static balance portion, but his athletic ability allow him to be balanced on his edges and move with power and purpose. A more athletic style of play sees him on his back side or scrambling a little more than most when out of position or outside of his posts. He drops into pucks very effectively to center his body on plays and avoid reaching. This allows him to control rebounds with ease and direct them away from traffic or swallow them. His hip mobility and movement doesn’t allow a lot of mobility and makes it more difficult to gain and lose depth quickly. Resulting in him maintaining a mid-depth with an average build. A lot of positives to the young Blackhawks goaltenders’ game to look forward to and coming up just short in this 4-3 loss.
