16U Tier 1 Massachusetts National Bound State Tournament

This weekend brought us to the New England Sports Center for the girls national bound T1 state tournament. 12 teams across two divisions faced off for the title. Both number 1 seeds from the two divisions met in the finals where Assabet Valley would beat the Massachusetts Spitfires by a score of 2-1. Report is based solely on the players’ play in this tournament.

Assabet

Christina Scalese (Groton, F, 2026) : One of the top players in the tournament. Everything she does is quick. Her feet are moving constantly on forechecks and will use her body to separate you from the puck. She sets up her teammates for shots and goals for her team. When she has the puck on her stick her hands move quickly to get to an area to move the puck or keep away from being poked off her stick. Her vision is also special, to be able to play that fast and make plays was impressive. A

Sarah Powers (Phillips Andover Academy, F, 2026) : Sarah has quick feet that allow her to shadow the opposition to make it a pain to break the puck out against her. Her long strides and constantly being engaged in the game make her play at a fast pace and dominate on the ice. She has a good active stick to break up passing lanes and is not afraid to show emotion and play with a chip on her shoulder. When she has the puck on her stick in the offensive zone she looks to make quick and accurate passes to her teammates to create fast offense and find the back of the net. A-

Caroline Averill (Phillips Andover Academy, F, 2026) : When we first started watching Assabet, Caroline was positioned in the high slot exactly where she was supposed to be and put a great shot on net that ended in a beautiful goal. She was well positioned all weekend long and helped along the boards to gain possession of the puck. We know she can bring it offensively due to finishing right at a point per game. B+

Maggie Averill (Phillips Andover Academy, D, 2027) : Maggie has a rocket of a shot from the point. She can get shots on net in a hurry and shoot through screens and traffic. She likes to play offensively and rush up ice as much as you can to make an odd man rush up ice. Also not afraid to take the puck out of the zone herself and carry the puck over the redline to get it deep or take it in herself. B+

Elizabeth Allen (Dexter Southfield School, F, 2026) : Liz has great quick feet that allow her to accelerate up ice in a hurry. She can carry the puck so well and transitions defense into offense very nicely. She likes having the puck on her stick and does a good job of getting pucks to the offensive zone and getting shots on net. B+

Evelyn Doyle (Dexter Southfield School, F, 2026) : Evelyn caught our eye for her ability to find the back of the net. Finishing the state tournament with 7 goals is no joke and taking credit for that was putting herself in positions to score. She always has her stick and body towards the net and can shoot shots on net or bang home rebounds from her teammates. She also does the work along the boards and helps win possession of the puck for her team. B

Boston Jr Eagles

Sofia Nardelli (Boston Jr. Eagles Maroon U16, F, 2028) : Sofia is playing up and looks right at home in this level of play. She not only has the talent but the work ethic as well. She will forecheck and absolutely hound the opposition for loose pucks to make life tough for opposing defenses looking to break out of the zone. Offensively she has good hands to possess the puck and carry it around the zone. She is also fearless and will go to high traffic areas to win pucks and get pucks on net. B+

Erin Flaherty (Canterbury School, D, 2023) : Erin is a taller forward who gets up and down the ice very well. She is trusted in any situation which shows coaches think highly of her game. She plays with a high motor and strong work ethic. She is relentless on the puck and seems to give it her all on every shift. Offensively, when put in a scoring position she showed us she can finish and we saw her bury the OT winner against the americans. B+

Leah Hafer (Dexter Southfield School, F, 2028) : Leah is a bright young talent playing up from u14 to u16. She plays center and has a very high IQ that makes her a great center. She supports the puck in all 3 zones and makes sure she is there to help battle or keep pucks from exiting the offensive zone. When she has the puck she showcased she can get pucks off her stick in a hurry and create offense. She was also strong in the face-off dot all weekend. B

Kyleigh Rabazzi (Rivers School, D, 2026) : Kyleigh is a consistent defender who is good one on one and does well along the boards fighting for pucks. What we liked the most was her ability to move the puck up ice in the neutral zone which is tough to do due to less space for your forwards to go. Her puck moving is deemed to be her best asset which will help her get big minutes at Rivers. B

Worcester Whitehawks

Cassidy Lobisser (NAHA Red 16U, F, 2026) : One of the best talents at the tournament this year. Huge potential for Cassidy to be a great player at the next level. When she was on the ice, something always happened and it was due to her skill and hard work. Skilled players sometimes take a backseat towards effort but not for Cassidy. The way she goes to pucks and battles for pucks was a treat to watch. She is a good skater and can carry the puck around the ice looking for options and create offense. Her slick hands allow her to get passes and shots off with very little space and her shot is hard and very accurate. A

Kaylee Mandeville (NAHA Red 16U, D, 2027) : Kaylee is a strong defenseman with good soft hands. We saw her hit players tape to tape and have the IQ when to throw a sauce pass to her teammates. She is calm and collected at the blue line and does not let any sort of pressure bother her. Her head is always up looking to make a play, whether its a pass or a shot on net. She also has quick feet and good edges that allow her to escape from pressure and keep plays alive. B+

Avery Hovland (NAHA Red 16U, F, 2025) : Avery is a workhorse. She hounds pucks from the opposition and wins pucks so that her team and line can remain a scoring threat. She is tough along the boards and uses her body well to make breaking out against her tough and use her body to separate the puck from opposing players. Her skating is strong and balanced, she gets around the ice well to make herself a pass option so she can let off a strong shot on net. B

Elizabeth Mehling (NAHA Red 16U, D, 2026) : Ellie is a low risk defenseman who keeps trouble out of her zone and makes smart passes. She is engaged at all times and puts the puck in space for her teammates to skate to and out of trouble. We also love the way she keeps plays in the offensive zone with an occasional pinch. B

Weymouth Hockey

Kourtney David (Dennis-Yarmouth Dolphins, F, 2027) : Kourtney is a strong player who makes good moves to the net. She is fearless and has quick hands that allow herself to be a scoring threat around the net. She has the ability to finish, which we saw against the whitehawks, and we love her efforts to win puck battles for her team. B-

Wizards

|Brenna^O’Reilly| : Brenna was one of the best all around defenseman we saw this weekend. Everywhere on the ice she was very effective and made an impact. Offensively, she keeps pucks in and can get good low shots towards the net. Defensively, she is good one on one and deletes the opposition of getting to the net against her. She always has an active stick and will poke pucks off players and get in passing and shooting lanes. Her board play is also aggressive and she will out muscle anyone for the puck. B+

Violet Dittman (Cushing Academy, F, 2026) : Violet is a player a coach loves to have in her lineup. We were a fan of how well she did the little things. She’s a good skater who can get up and down the ice in a hurry. She is well balanced and has good edges to follow and shadow the puck to keep the opposition from exiting the zone. Not only is her forechecking good but her back checking as well. She gets back to support her D and picks up the open player to decrease a threat on her net. B

Izzy King (BB&N, F, 2025) : Izzy has quick feet that allows her to win puck battles and fight for possession of the puck. We like her board play and how she can come up with loose pucks. When she has the puck she uses her quickness to buy time and make a move to the net or find a teammate for a pass. She has good vision on the ice and can set up her teammates with solid tape to tape passes. B

Carly Greer (Phillips Andover Academy, F, 2025) : Carly was a smooth player who matched good skating with good puck handling. She was good at helping her team exit the zone by carrying the puck up ice well and confident. She also always had her feet moving and made herself an option for her teammates to pass to, all weekend long. B

Carly Dann (Loomis Chaffee School, D, 2026) : In the programs, Carly was listed as a defenseman but we saw her play forward. She was a good solid forward for her team. She skates well and for a taller player she uses her long strides to get up and down the ice at a good pace. She hounds loose pucks and was an effective forechecker by using her reach and skating to take away passing and skating lanes. Her reach also assisted in the defensive zone and allowed her to cover a good amount of ice. B

Adi Paskowski (Tabor Academy, D, 2023) : Adi is more of an offensive defenseman but does her job in the defensive end as well. She has a good stick that is always active and engaged towards the puck. Offensively, in her own end she likes to rush the puck up ice and use her legs to break the puck out of the zone. She skates with good speed which allows her to get pucks into the offensive zone in a hurry and out of her zone. When she is on the point, she has a strong shot that gets to the net and creates scoring chances. B

Emi Biotti (BB&N, D, 2025) : Emi is a solid and consistent defender. She is a taller player who uses her reach and long strides well to cover the ice and get in passing, skating and shooting lanes. She has good puck skills to move the puck to her teammates and is a threat in the high slot to put a hard and heavy shot on net. B

Spitfires

Catie Putt (Williston Northampton School, D, 2026) : Catie was one of the best skating defenseman we saw all weekend. Her biggest asset is her feet and how she can play at a fast pace. She is moving quick and moves the puck quickly up ice to her teammates. When she is in a jam she uses her quick feet to escape away from the pressure and looks calm and collected all the way through. When she has the puck at the point, she gets low shots on net to help offensively. We are excited to see her game at Williston this year. A-

Violet Carroll (Williston Northampton School, F, 2025) : Violet had herself an excellent weekend putting her at the top for points and at an impressive 8 goals in 6 games which also led the tournament. We believe her quickness with the puck and her ability to get shots on net contributes to her success. She is also very good around the net with being aggressive towards rebounds and using her quick feet and hands to do whatever she can to create offense. A-

Gretta Hulbig (Noble and Greenough School, F, 2026) : Gretta is a tall player with good poise with the puck. She is confident to hold the puck in the offensive zone and use the perimeter of the ice to her advantage to find open teammates or shot lanes. She is most effective when the puck is on her stick but we do not want to underplay how well she battles for possession of the puck. Her wordplay is strong and uses her body to separate the puck from the opposition which helps her and her team create more and more offense. B+

Alaina Dunn (Dexter Southfield School, D, 2025) : Alaina is a steady and solid defender. She has quick feet that allow her to get in position quickly as well as walking the blue line to help her search for shot lanes. When she takes her shot, she puts a hard low shot on net that helps create offense by either going in or hitting sticks for a tip. She is also good at keeping the play in front of her and always being square to the puck. B

Valley Jr. Warriors

Lyla Casey (North Yarmouth Academy, F, 2025) : Lyla was a taller forward and used her height to her advantage. She used her long strides well to get around the ice but with that said she was also explosive and had quickness around the offensive zone. She has good hands to manage the puck and picks her head up to set up her teammates in high dangerous scoring areas. We are eager to see how her prep season goes. B+

Brady Wierl (Deerfield Academy, F, 2026) : Brady is a good skater who is balanced and has a good smooth stride. She carries the puck up ice well and possesses it to make smart plays with the puck. She can motor around the ice and finds passing lanes to give to her teammates to create offense. Her hockey IQ is also high which allows her to be creative with the puck and help with her playmaking. B

Maria Gray (Phillips Exeter Academy, F, 2026) : Maria got better each game we saw her. She is also doing something on the ice. She keeps her feet moving at all times which helps her teammates find her for passes. She is not shy to pressure and the physical game. She will take any player one on one and use her giddiness to fight for pucks and fight to get to the net. With a high work ethic like hers, she will continue to develop at a good rate. B

Vipers

Samantha Toomey (Reading, D, 2026) : Samantha is a solid defenseman who uses her brain and skating to be effective.
