Minnesota15A – Regional Tournament – 2024

The 15A regional tournaments took place the first weekend of March and were held at three different locations throughout Minnesota. Including Duluth, Woodbury and St. Cloud. The teams fought for their trip to the State Tourney. The following are some of the standouts over the course of the weekend. Our scouting report from the State Tournament will follow next week.

A+

Lilly Horton #15 (Edina Green, D): Horton is so smart and sharp. She has great vision and can slow down the play when her team needs time. She has good size and is strong on the puck. She makes great passes and has a phenomenal release to the net. She is wise and plays older than she is. Horton can take the puck coast to coast but is still a reliable defender. She makes it hard for you to beat her as she will angle the forwards where she wants them to go and takes the body. An overall intelligent player with a lot of potential.  

Taylor Kurtz #16 (Rochester U15A, F): Kurtz plays a step ahead of her opponent. She is quick, smart and tenacious. She is great offensively and reads it right away. She gets involved in the play and is always around the puck. Kurtz is offensively sound and can put the puck in the net. She can be shifty and unpredictable. She is always making things happen. 

Allie Defauw #39 (East Coast Valkyries U16, F): Defauw is a quick and witty player. She does not have a lot of hesitation in her game. A speedy player who can generate a ton of offense. She is always around the puck and can be shifty and unpredictable. Defauw produces and is capable of making those around her better. 

Jia Morgan #18 (Edina High School, F, 2028): Morgan is smart behind the play. She protects the puck and has good hands. She is patient and quick thinking all at the same time. She knows when to play it, when to hold onto it and when to shoot it. She does a great job off the side wall and setting up the play creating offense. She can produce.

Katelin Shirley #4 (Moorhead High School, F): hirley has speed and know-how. She takes the outside lane and can wheel with the puck gaining the offensive zone. She keeps her head on a swivel and hits her target. Shirley can generate offense and produces. She has good hockey sense and uses whatever area she can to buy time and get the puck in a scoring position.

A

Molly Clough #20 (Andover High School, D): Clough is a strong player who plays with an edge. She moves her feet and can cause havoc. She puts her body into it and ties up her opponent. She has good vision and hockey sense. She puts her stick in the right place at the right time blocking the passing or shooting lane to the net. She is smart and can create offensive chances. Clough sets it up and is capable of producing.  

Brooke Kapeller #2 (Minnetonka U15A, D): Kapeller does a great job quarterbacking the power play. She has excellent special teams skills and does a nice job reading the puck from on top. She shows great patience when she needs to as well as knowing when to either take it or release the puck to the net. She is smart and has good instincts. Kapeller is a solid defender. 

Ava Molde #15 (Wayzata High School, F/D): Molde fights and finds a way to get the puck into the offensive zone. She reads and reacts very well and has good vision. She plays two-way hockey and can play multiple positions. She has speed and does a good job on the draw. Molde can be a threat with or without the puck. Dependable and consistent.  

Claire Sommerfield #8 (Minnetonka U15A, F): Sommerfield is a highly skilled young player who became noticeable from the drop of the puck. She has speed, determination and the ability to thread the needle. She moves her feet and reads and reacts really well to the play. She is an offensive threat and gets open and supports the play. Good IQ. 

Maya Dutton #21 (Alexandria Area High School, F): Dutton is a smart player who makes smart decisions. She has a good work ethic and makes positive things happen in the offensive zone. She gets pucks to the net and sets it up. She supports and moves her feet to create and generate offense. Dutton can be a threat with or without the puck and finds a way to get her stick on it. 

Kaelyn Holmen #11 (Stillwater Red 15U A, F): Holmen is ready and prepared. She is quick on it. Offensive minded she has good speed and puts forth a great effort. She knows the game upstairs and is a threat in the offensive zone with or without the puck. She finds loose pucks, gets her body into it and produces. Holmen ended the weekend with 6 points. A solid performance.

Mae Fitzgerald #7 (Edina Green, F): Fitzgerald uses her body and creates. She finds the open ice and gains offensive zone entry. She does a great job on special teams and can produce. She positions really well and battles hard. She does a great job in small ice areas and controls the puck around traffic. Fitzgerald has good vision and hockey sense. 

Madrid Satterstrom #12 (Rochester U15A, F): Satterstrom finds the open ice and gets to it with or without the puck. Her head is always on a swivel. She is quick and has great instincts to read and react. She can play a step ahead. Satterstrom finds a way to break free and gets to the open ice. She gets her chances and works for her opportunities.

Molly Hockett #3 (Moorhead High School, F): Hockett plays really well with her linemates. She follows up and supports the play getting to the open ice and becoming available for the puck. She generates offense and can produce. She has nice hockey sense and can be tenacious on it. Hockett pressures and works for her chances. She has heart and drive. 

Taylin Engelhardt #7 (Stillwater Red 15U A, F): Engelhardt uses her size to her advantage. She is strong on it and uses her strength and common sense. She has the game upstairs and is always ready. She puts herself in great positions and finds a way to get and keep control of the puck. She is aware and figures things out. She is an intelligent player who can produce. 

Aleska Dorstad #6 (Andover High School, D): Dorstad is a speedy player who believes in herself and plays with confidence. She can take it the length of the ice and gets pucks in scoring positions. She has an offensive mind so when she gets the opportunity she takes it. Defensively she is sound and aggressive. She uses her body and keeps an active stick to block any passing lane. 

Charlotte Rosati #33 (Minnetonka U15A, D): Rosati does a really nice job playing her position. She knows when to step up into the play and when to hold back and hold the zone. She does a great job keeping pucks in play and she is actively involved. She can get the puck through traffic and to the net. She keeps her head up and does a nice job utilizing her outlets. 

Nora Coole #9 (Duluth Marshall, F): Coole is a mover. She does not shy away from the physical side and does whatever she can to get open or to support the play. She opens up and has great net front presence. She plays two-way hockey and can be a force. Coole can be a threat offensively, but is also valuable behind the play. 

Alyssa Sandquist #30 (Cottage Grove 15 A, G): Sandquist got peppered in the opening game against Edina but she did not back down. She stayed cool and calm and was quick to react. She moves side to side fluently and quickly. She has a good glove hand and comes out to take the angle away. Sandquist can find the puck through traffic and made some impressive stops. 

Sasha Cole #20 (Duluth Marshall, F): Cole has speed and good instincts. Her determination works to her advantage, and she makes positive situations out of negative ones. She creates offense and can produce. She keeps her head on a swivel and hits her target.

A-

Audrey Simonet #13 (Stillwater Red 15U A, F): Simonet is a quick/speedy player who gets after it and plays in all zones of the ice. She can be a shifty player and at times unpredictable. She makes the most out of her chances and has a good offensive mind. She uses stops and starts and can put the puck in the net. Simonet plays with passion. 

Barrett Carroll #8 (Minnetonka U15A, F): Carroll is a speedy player who pressures the play and can cause havoc for the other team. She has great instincts and vision to read the play. She is offensive minded and makes things happen in front of the net. Carroll creates chances and puts pucks in scoring positions. 

Bailey Theis #2 (Unknown, F, 2027): Theis is a worker and can be a tenacious player. She is always around the puck and involved in the play somehow. She had a beautiful individual effort to tie the game with a fantastic goal against Elk River. She moves her feet and keeps going after it. She puts on pressure and forechecks hard. 

Alexis Wagner #12 (Andover High School, F): Wagner is quick on the draw and can put the puck where she wants it. She has a nice release and gets the puck on net. She had a beautiful opening goal against the Elks to put her team on the board. She finds the middle lane and goes for it. She has good vision and instincts. Wagner makes good things happen with hard work and effort. 

Kaylan Kapsen #12 (Edina Green, D): Kapsen is reliable and defensively sound. She can move the puck nicely and in a timely manner. She holds the blue line and controls it. She has hockey sense. Kapsen steps to the middle of the ice to get pucks to the net, or to pull the forward with her to make the pass. She has good vision and instincts.

Teagan Cullen #25 (Alexandria Area High School, D): Cullen is a strong and sturdy defender. She uses her head and has patience to settle it down when she needs to. She uses her vision and creates offensive chances from the blue line. She is aware of what is going on and reads it well. Cullen can be aggressive and can create scoring opportunities. A solid defender. 

Kamrin Turnquist #25 (East Coast Valkyries U16, F): Turnquist plays great with Defauw and together they can produce. She reads and reacts and does a really good job supporting the play and crashing the net. She has good net front presence and keeps her stick on the ice and in scoring positions. 

Joely Geisler #19 (Blaine School, D): Geisler puts her body into it. She has a physical side and takes the body to tie up and take the opposition off the puck. She takes good angles and makes it hard for the forwards to get by her. Geisler keeps nice gap control and keeps an active stick. She gets pucks to the net and can rush it when she sees her chance. She had a few nice chances throughout the tourney. 

Presley Paulson #9 (Proctor/ Hermantown, F): Paulsen has speed and know-how. She uses stops and starts when she needs to and does a nice job offensively. She can be aggressive and keeps an active stick. She does a really nice job on special teams and is aware of the opposition. She wants to be involved and finds a way to get control of the puck.

B+

Peyton Ishaug #8 (Eden Prairie High School, D, 2027): Ishaug has really good reactions. She reads and reacts very well and finds a way to get her stick on the puck. She holds the offensive zone and gets pucks through traffic and to the net. She can play with grit and makes smart decisions. Ishaug is patient with good hands. She is active and plays her position.

Ariyanna Loveland #14 (Alexandria Area High School, F): Loveland has a nice presence. She is involved and gets on the puck. She plays in each zone and had some really nice back-checks. She gets after it and opens up for the puck. Loveland can gain the offensive zone and gets pucks in scoring positions. She keeps her head up and can attack the middle of the ice. 

Charlotte Heckendorf #4 (North Wright County U15, D): Heckendorf does a nice job knowing when to step up or when to stay back. She keeps her stick out wide and active and angles forwards to the outside lane.  She does a nice job acting on her instincts and reading the play in front of the net.  

Elizabeth Rindal #65 (Cottage Grove 15 A, F): Rindal reads it and she follows up the play. She does a nice job angling and does a great job positioning. She can create from behind the net and has speed and know-how. She plays great in the neutral zone and can cause turnovers or steal pucks away. She uses her body and finds her way to the net.

Kendall Ringat #10 (North Wright County U15, F): Ringat is quick to the puck and quick to react. She likes to be involved in the play and around the puck. She creates chances offensively and can attack the middle of the ice to get pucks on net. She can win the race and small ice battles.

Greta Erickson #3 (Roseville U15A, D): Erickson can definitely wheel and go with it when she sees the opportunity. Defensively sound but can be a little risky and sometimes goes fishing with her stick a little too much. She does play with grit and passion and has some speed. She takes the body and ties up in the D zone and keeps the forwards to the outside. 

Addison Vaszily #22 (Rochester U15A, D): Vaszily is a big presence. She is physical and she uses her body to take the opposition off the puck. She hits her targets and makes smart decisions. She made some beautiful passes and put herself in great positions. Vaszily can make things happen from the blue and does a nice job holding the zone. 

Kendall Warner #24 (Woodbury High School, D): Warner does a nice job blocking out and using her body. She finds a way to get involved in the play and takes the body. She does an ice job holding the zone and keeping pucks in play. She steps up when she needs to and can wheel with it when she needs or sees the opportunity.

Hannah Simonson #11 (Duluth Marshall, F): Simonson does a very nice job getting open and following up the play. She reads and reacts and gets pucks into the O zone and to the net. She is a playmaker and she creates chances. Simonson has good net front presence and keeps her stick on the ice ready for anything. 

Sophie Anderson #18 (Orono High School, F): Anderson gets after it and can put her head down and go. She uses her body and plays with determination. She has a nice work ethic and can read and react with good instincts. She causes havoc and has a physical side to take the opposition off the puck.

B

Lauren Tait #51 (Cottage Grove 15 A, F): Tait does a really nice job playing with Rindal and setting up the play in the O zone. She supports the puck and finds a way to be involved in the play, whether she has control of the puck or not. She has nice net front presence and gets the puck to the goal. She keeps an active stick and battles in front of the crease. 

Brooklyn Yoki #7 (Proctor/ Hermantown, D): Yoki moves her feet and goes in the direction of the puck. She can be aggressive and if she finds herself in the position to do so she will take the puck and go. She can get out of position from time to time but usually finds her way back to make the stop.  

Madison Felton #14 (Orono High School, F): Felton reads and reacts well and takes good angles on the play. She gets to the boards and opens up for the pass. She is a nice offense to defense player. Felton keeps her body to the puck and gets open for the pass. She is a good winger. 

Caitlyn Bryer #11 (Woodbury High School, F): Bryer does a nice job on the draw. She uses her body and has a physical side. She gets pucks to the net and helps out in the corner. She forechecks and has the ability to cause havoc. Bryer battles and can get pucks to the net. She has good net front presence. 

Dylann Cooper #81 (Rosemount High School, F): Cooper has some good ideas and can make the right play. She has good vision and fights and battles. She makes positive things happen in the offensive zone and has an aggressive side that suits her well. Cooper finds a way to get control of it and gets pucks to the net. 

Camille Myhre #37 (Roseville U15A, F): Myhre can find the open ice and buys space and time. She can use her speed to get around traffic and does a nice job in small ice areas. She supports the puck and acts on her instincts.
