59 College Commitments Round Out October

Neutral Zone’s records are showing a busy month of November for NCAA and USport schools as they committed 59 players in 31 days. Many of these players our scouts have evaluated within the last few years and continue to track their progress. Plenty of excellent players will be continuing their careers at the NCAA and USport levels and we have highlighted some of those players below.

(F) ‘06 Zoey Krock: commits to University of Minnesota-Duluth for 2024

The highly skilled Pens Elite forward will be dawning the Bulldogs logo beginning in the 2024 season. The 3.75 star is continuing to lead her Pittsburgh squad has they just captured the USA/Canada Cup title in Detroit this month, where she racked up 9 points in the weekend.

NZ Scouts (from PIP Labor Day Tournament ’22): “Krock’s skating, stickhandling, and creativity are excellent in themselves, but paired with her Hockey IQ, makes her a dynamic player. The puck just seems to find her because she is willing to skate to where she needs to be. She can light the lamp off a hard shot at pace or bury loose pucks in traffic around the paint.”

(F) ‘06 Raedyn Spademan commits to Clarkson University for 2024

The Golden Knights add the 3.75 star, Alberta native. The forward was a point per game player in the playoffs last season for Edge School and will continue showcase her skills with Rink Academy of Kelowna throughout this season.

NZ Scouts (from Alberta Winter Games): “Spademan has great acceleration against a mostly older and physically stronger group. She makes good choices with the puck and should develop to have the puck more frequently.”

(F) ‘06 Addison Spitz commits to Colgate for 2024

The Raiders are adding a very skilled 3.75 star forward in Spitz. She put up a monstrous 138 points for Little Caesars U16 team last season and is continuing to trend that direction this season.

NZ Scouts (from U16 USA Nationals): “Spitz showed nice breakaway speed and hands on a goal, separating herself behind the defense and finishing on a deke in tight. The winger’s moves and sick stick skills confuse her opponents. She likes to drag the puck and set a play in motion. She has strong communication to linemates for a pass or when getting herself to the net for shots.”

(G) ‘05 Genevieve Klein commits to Ohio State for 2024

The Buckeyes locked up 3.75 star as a future netminder this month in Klein. The Shattuck’s St. Mary’s goalie who puts up quality numbers for the Minnesota prep school and has had a number of invites to National camps will get the chance in 2024 to shine in the scarlet and grey in the WCHA.

NZ Scouts (USA Tier 1 Nationals): “She has quick reflexes that allow her to deny high shots and get to rebounds quickly. Was a solid force in net for Shattuck.”

(F) ‘06 Reese Logan commits to University of Minnesota-Duluth for 2024

Logan will team up with Krock on the Bulldogs squad in 2024. The Burlington, ON native will continue to lead the Etobbicoke Jr. Dolphins throughout this season as the 3.5 star continues to shine.

NZ Scouts (Ontario End of Season Report): “She has soft hands and skills for her size. She shows good defensive positioning and coverage support. She picks up open players and makes smart puck moving decisions on the power play. Logan is a well balanced forward with solid top speed and long strides. She makes smart plays with the puck and has no rush when pressure mounts. Has a high passing IQ and sees the play developing before it happens to get into the right spots.”

(F) ‘04 Cassandra Johnson commits to Assumption College for 2023

Assumption has had a busy few months with plenty of quality commitments and the Greyhounds add another quality player in Johnson. The 3.5 star from California will make the trek cross country to Worcester, Massachusetts to join Assumption for their inaugural season at the Division 1 level.

NZ Scouts (USA Tier 1 Nationals): “She understands the game from an offensive and defensive perspective to make her a big threat. She has good size and moves well, especially notable off the puck as she makes herself an option. She crashes the net hard and isn’t afraid of physical play.”

(G) ‘05 Danielle Strom commits to St. Thomas for 2024

The newly minted to NCAA Division 1 Tommies commit an excellent 3.25 star goaltender in Strom. The Minnesota native will not head down the street and compete in the toughest conference in all of women’s hockey.

NZ Scouts (USA Hockey PDC 16/17’s): “Strom showcased solid positioning throughout the week. She tracks pucks well and stays square to the shot. She seems to stay calm in every situation and brings that calming presence to her team…. She never gives up on a play/puck. High battle level.”

(F) ‘05 Ireland McCloskey commits to St. Francis Xavier for 2023

The Barrie Jr. Sharks forward is a 3 star addition to the St. Francis Xavier squad beginning in the 2023 season. The Ontario native will head a few Providences east to Nova Scotia and hit the ice for the X-Women.

NZ Scouts (Ontario End of Season ’22): “McCloskey has good hockey sense and is always around the puck. The strong skater uses speed effectively to get in on the forecheck to force errors, blow by the D to get into scoring spaces or hustle on the backcheck to create and snag turnovers. She plays physical and battles hard in all situations.”

(F) ‘05 Charlie Rauch commits to University of New Hampshire for 2024

The Wildcats gain a 3 star forward for the 2024 season. The New Jersey native and CT Polars forward will be sticking around in the New England area to help UNH run the Hockey East Association Conference.

NZ Scouts (USA Hockey PDC 16/17’s): “Rauch is one of those players that easily gets lots in coverage but has the timing to just pop up into open ice and get a scoring opportunity. She reads plays very well and has excellent timing offensively and defensively.”

(D) ‘05 Ashley Kokavec commits to University of Maine for 2023

The 3 star Belle Tire defender will join the Maine Black Bears next season. Kokavec will certainly be a skillful addition to Maine’s defensive core. Her solid two-way play is already trending up this season and it is no surprise to Neutral Zone that she’s committed to a Division 1 school. No doubt that current 3 star rating will be on the rise throughout the season.

NZ Scouts (PIP Labor Day Tournament 2022): “Kokavec is a dynamic and passionate player who gets stronger as the game wears on. She is great on her 1 v 1-gap control and maintains strong inside/out position on attacking forwards. She has great skating ability and finesse. The defender has a hard, clean wrist/snap shot on the point-and is always looking to put the puck on net.”

(D) ‘06 Sophia Rousseau commits to Quinnipiac for 2024

The Bobcats add some height on the D-side of their roster with the 5’9″ Rousseau from the Mid-Fairfield program. She looks to sport the navy and gold at the People’s United Center starting in the 2024 season.

NZ Scouts (NAHA Labor Day Tournament 2022): “Rousseau is a heads up defenseman who makes a firm, accurate first pass on the tape. She is strong and was able to push bodies around the net front, lift sticks and take away second chance opportunities.”

(D) ‘06 Emma Venusio commits to University of Wisconsin for 2024

The Badgers will add the current 3 star Toronto native to their defensive core in 2024. With Venusio they will add some speed and a battle ready player.

NZ Scouts (Ontario End of Season ’21 Reports): “Venusio is a smooth skater who controls and handles the puck well. She gets the puck off her stick quickly for shots on net. Solid slapshot gets through traffic for chances. The defender plays a good physical game bumping the opposition off the puck to deny chances.”

(D) ‘05 Ashley Mandeville commits to Mercyhurst for 2024

Another 3 star defender off the board, as Mandeville will head to Northwest Pennsylvania in 2024. The Lakers add the puck moving defender from the strong BK Selects team.

NZ Scouts (Chowder Cup 2022): “Mandeville is a standout defender, able to move the puck up ice and send a riffle on net to light the lamp.  She makes the smart choice, hustles to the play, plays with confidence, and always puts in second effort.  She will pressure her opponent, physically challenging them, pins, pivots tight and can allude their attempts to get control.”

(F) ‘05 Rose-Marie Brochu commits to Vermont for 2023

The Catamounts add another solid 3 star player to their lineup next season. The Quebec native will bring solid two-way play and a hard work ethics to the Green and Gold in 2023.

NZ Scouts (Ottawa Senators Winter Showcase): “Brochu is the captain of the A’s and the clear leader with her exemplary work ethic and compete level. Hound-like on the puck, she forced several turnovers by employing an active stick, keeping her feet constantly moving, and displaying an impressive ability to pivot, stop, start, and accelerate on the forecheck. “

(F) ‘05 Christina Alexiou commits to University of Toronto for 2023

The Blues pick up an excellent 3 star forward addition for the 2023 season. The Oakville player will head just down the road in Ontario to join the USport team at University of Toronto.

NZ Scouts (Ontario End of Season ’22 Report): “She sees and reads the ice, and makes good choices with the puck. Her quick bursts of speed with the puck enable her to beat defenders wide, get low and stay on edges. She finds teammates in front of the net with centering passes, hustles hard to get puck from defenders.”
