Neutral Zone has named Heath Gordon as its new Director of Women’s U.S. Scouting. Gordon has extensive experience as both a player and a coach that he will bring to the staff at Neutral Zone, most recently as an assistant coach with the Boston Pride in the NWHL.
“I am very excited to be joining the Neutral Zone family and to be working alongside Jess Cameron,” Gordon said. “My goal is simple – provide female players across the U.S. the exposure they deserve.”
Gordon will be based in New England and will scout prospects throughout the U.S.
“Heath will make an excellent addition to the Neutral Zone women’s staff,” said Jess Cameron, NZ’s Director of Women’s Hockey. “His experience coaching in the NWHL gives him a concrete understanding of the women’s game at the highest level. Heath has a true passion for the women’s game and is committed to giving players across the US the scouting exposure they deserve.”
Gordon is a Massachusetts native who played locally in the Boston area. He captured an MIAA State Championship with Catholic Memorial High School and a New England Prep Championship with Cushing Academy before moving out west to play for the Green Bay Gamblers in the USHL. There he won a league championship and the Jr. A National Championship. During this span, Heath was drafted by the Oshawa Generals (OHL) and was a sixth-round pick of the Chicago Blackhawks in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft.
Gordon went on to play collegiate hockey at Providence College and then professionally for various teams in the ECHL and SPHL before moving into coaching..
After his playing career, Gordon began his coaching career in the USHL spending time with the Green Bay Gamblers and the Chicago Steel before moving back to the Boston area in 2008. Since that time, he has been involved working with various youth, high school and junior programs in the area. He has worked as a player development/skills coach to both male and female players from the youth level through the professional ranks. Last season, Gordon was the assistant coach for the Boston Pride of the National Women’s Hockey League (NWHL).
Gordon helped the Pride dominate the NWHL last season, posting a 23-1-0 record and a +77 goal differential; the Pride were the favorite to win the Isobel Cup before the season was halted due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
