May Commitments: Nazareth College leads the way for ’23 – LIU and RIT add for ’24

Even though recruiting season is winding down for most Universities and Colleges, we saw a few Division I, Division III, and USports programs ink quality players in the month of May. While RIT, LIU, and MacEwan University each added one player to their roster, Nazareth College showed that their work is never done and are always looking to improve their squad. Nazareth inked a number of players in May, from Minnesota High Schools, New England Prep Schools, Philadelphia Jr. Flyers, Shattuck St. Mary’s, and the Alaska All-Stars programs. Best of luck to these players heading to NCAA and USport teams as they continue their hockey careers.

Crosby WildfongF (★★★3/4) – Commits to Long Island University ‘24

The Sharks land a 3.75 star forward from the Detroit Little Caesars program. The right handed ‘05 forward has had a solid career with the well known Michigan program. Wildfong now trades in her baby blue and orange for the baby blue and yellow of the Long Island University Sharks. The small but speedy Michigander will take one more season in Detroit before moving to the Island to help continue the development of the fairly new LIU program and bring that Hockeytown style of play to the Island.

NZ Scouts say: “Wildfong is a tenacious forward who pressures well up-ice to force turnovers at even strength and on the PK. She can create offense off the cycle with nice passes or by driving the net. She is a disrupter, picking off opponent plays and creating her own. She reads the play well and will steal, spin quickly and get shots on net… Her hockey IQ is elite, leading her to be a step ahead of her opponent.”

Kailey FavroF (★★★1/2) – Commits to Rochester Institute of Technology ‘24

The Tigers add a shifty 3.5 star to their 2023-24 roster. Favro, the California born ‘06 enjoyed a successful career in the San Jose Sharks program and most recently at St. Mary’s. The last year U16 USA Hockey National Camp invite may come from a small market for women’s hockey, but continues to prove that she can play at a high level with some of the best in North America. She will add one more season with St. Mary’s before getting the chance to prove herself once again as she dons the orange and black for RIT in the ‘24 season.

NZ Scouts say: “Favro is quick and shifty. She meanders through traffic and makes clean zone entries. Once there, she showed no problems getting pucks to the net and made a number of nice plays at the net to set up her team with quality scoring chances. Favro also has sound defensive zone positioning. She knows where to be and is always on the D-side of the puck.”

Maggie JacobyD (★★1/4) – Commits to Nazareth College ‘23

Next season the Golden Flyers will add some toughness to the squad in Jacoby. The 5’8” defender is not a big points player, but she is a solid shutdown D that does everything in her power to protect The House. Last season’s 23-6-1 Nazareth team allowed an average of 1.1 goals per game last season and should be a system that Jacoby can thrive in.

NZ Scouts say: “Jacoby plays with a little bit of a mean streak. She has good size and strength. In corners and in battles she is hard on bodies and sticks. She wears down her opponents with physical play to win pucks and defend her net.”

Alexis KindredF (★★★1/4) – Commits to Nazareth College ‘23

Kindred will be making one big commute this fall from Anchorage, Alaska to Rochester, New York next season. The ‘05 forward spent the last few seasons honing her skills with the Alaska All-Stars and will not pull on the black and orange for Nazareth in the United Collegiate Hockey Conference. The two time National Development Team Camp invite will look to add to the already deep roster of the Golden Flyers.

NZ Scouts say: “Kindred showcased some really nice transitional footwork. She gets north and south smoothly and with ease and showed some nice lateral movement as well. She advertises her shot often, but if she gets a clear line has no problem getting pucks to the net and crashing the crease for second opportunities.”

Lindsay Moses (F)Commits to the Nazareth College ‘23

The straight line forward out of West Chester, Pa will look to continue to develop at the Division III level as she transitions from the Orange and Black Flyers to the Golden Flyers. Moses is a 5’4” right hander who will again bring strong depth to the Nazareth squad in the fall.

NZ Scouts say: “Moses has good speed attacking and defending as well as quick hands on the draw to win cleanly for possession.”

Rebecca Mullahy (G)Commits to Nazareth College ‘23

The hard working Boston Jr. Eagles netminder will come into Nazareth camp and battle for her ice time, as she will be 3rd on the depth chart behind a senior and sophomore goaltender returning from last season. But no doubt she will take this time to continue her development and be a strong back stop for the Golden Flyers in the future. Her solid performances for Tabor Academy have earned her this opportunity to battle.

NZ Scouts say: “Mullahy has solid angles, cuts down space, and a good first reaction to the shot. Her glove is always up and ready. She manages the crease well-not too deep, but not overzealous up top either. She sees the puck well and challenges the shooter often. Her glove and blocker are equally as strong at first glance.”

Ella Cedrone – (F)Commits to Nazareth College ‘23

Cedrone has had an excellent career playing for Holderness School in the New England Prep scene. While she is committed to the Golden Flyers as a forward, we’ve seen the 5’5” lefty have stints at D when needed. Her pure hustle style of play will fit smoothly into the hard working Nazareth system and will be effective in any situation she’s thrown into this fall, especially if its the penalty kill.

NZ Scouts say: “Cedrone sees the whole ice when she has the puck and works hard to get open when without it. She is a smart, hustle player who is positionally sound in all 3 zones. F1, F2, F3 – all good, as she plays the coachs’ system well as shown by her heavy minutes in this game. She has a good shot, she passes well, and works her PK assignments very effectively.”
