U.S. Women’s U18 National Festival Roster announced
19 of 31 players selected given A-grade by Neutral Zone at Top 66 camp
USA Hockey recently announced its 2017 U.S. Women’s Under 18 National Festival Roster which is composed of 31 players including three goalies, 10 defensemen and 18 forwards. Of the 31 players selected, 19 were given A-range gradings by Neutral Zone evaluators at the U18 Select Top 66 camp held in Maine in late June. We have listed below the full roster and included our player grades from the Top 66 camp. Player grades were based solely on player performances during the camp and the opinions of Neutral Zone evaluators. While a wide variety of factors – not limited to camp performances – can obviously influence roster selection decisions, there are a couple of interesting notes generated by the selections:
- 4.25-star prospect Kenzie Hauswirth, who was one of just four players to receive an “A+” grading from Neutral Zone for their performances at the Top 66 camp, was not selected for the U18 National Festival Roster. We felt the ’00-born Shattuck St. Mary’s forward and Quinnipiac (2019) recruit was one of the top playmakers, by a considerable margin, during the camp.
- Jillian Fey (Team Gold/Tabor, D, 2018, Boston College) and Lolita Fidler #11 (Team Blue/Edina, F, 2018, Harvard) were both given an “A” grading by Neutral Zone at the camp, and were also left off the final roster.
- While the roster is comprised primarily of 2000 and 2001 birthyear players, three 2002-born players made the team. They are Abbey Murphy, Makenna Webster and Maggie Nicholson.
