U18: 2022 NHL Draft Eligible players in the Belmont Hill Jamboree

The NHL side of Neutral Zone had one scout attend the the Belmont Hill Jamboree on Friday November 21st and Saturday November 22, 2021. All of the teams played two games which featured three 15 minute periods with 2 minute penalties. Each of these schools have a number of other draft eligible players on their rosters. They were either out of the line up or did not show enough to warrant write-up. We will review these players in future viewings and report on their progress.

U18: St. Sebastian’s vs Belmont Hill and Nobles vs Rivers

On Monday November 22 Neutral Zone traveled to Needham to watch Belmont Hill take on St. Sebastian’s in a true one period scrimmage that featured shortened benches, no special teams and 6 NHL scouts in attendance. We’re not going to make too much out of the St. Sebastian’s vs Belmont Hill scrimmage, but we will give you a brief evaluation on some of the 2022 NHL Draft eligible players who separated themselves from their peers. On Wednesday November 24 Neutral attended the Nobles versus Rivers game. There were approximately 20 scouts representing NHL organizations watching as well. This game was also billed as a “scrimmage”, but they played three 18 minute periods and special teams were involved.

U18: Dexter vs The Hill School and South Kent vs St. Andrews

On Saturday 11/20/2021 Neutral Zone saw The Hill School travel to Dexter. In a well coached contest the game ended in a 3-3 tie and there was no shootout. On Sunday 11/21/2021 Neutral Zone traveled to Mount St. Charles to watch South Kent and St. Andrews play in an early morning game that was heavily attended by NCAA, Major Junior and NHL scouts. There were a number of NHL Draft eligible players competing in these games and we feel a few separated themselves from their peers.

OHL: Owen Sound Attack at Guelph Storm

Shootout win for the Attack tonight, who rallied late to tie in the last 60 seconds of the game. Guelph carried the play most of the evening but could not beat undrafted Nick Chenard 5 on 5 or in the shootout. The bulk of the offense in this game came on the powerplay. There were a number of draft eligible players in this game who performed well and are written up below.

OHL: London Knights at Sarnia Sting

The Sting won a tight game 4-2 and were led by goaltender Ben Gaudreau, who made a number of quality saves in this game. The bulk of the offense in this game came on the powerplay. There were a number of draft eligible players in this game and a handful were reviewed below.

U18: Cushing Academy vs Mount St. Charles

In a back and forth battle that featured tight checking and emotion, Cushing came out with 2-1 home win. In theory this was Cushing’s first game, but the majority of the team has been playing together all Fall as the Central Mass Penguins so there was plenty of player familiarity. As we know Mount St. Charles plays a full season schedule. Below are the 2022 NHL Draft eligible players who we feel positively impacted the game, and after such a fragmented 2020-2021 season some are in their second year of eligibility.

OHL: Erie Otters at Guelph Storm

Great all-round game for the Storm tonight as they carried the majority of the play. Guelph attacked with speed through the neutral zone and played a strong cycle game. They had a number of quality scoring chances 5 on 5. First year draft eligible goaltender, Noland Lalonde was Erie’s top player and give the Otters a chance to win with his 29 save performance. There were a number of draft eligible players in this game who performed well and are written up below

OHL: Mississauga Steelheads vs Niagra Ice Dogs

On Sunday November 7th Neutral Zone had a scout in attendance to watch the Niagara Ice dogs visit the Mississauga Steelheads in OHL league action. While the attention was on late 2003 and 2004 birth years eligible for the 2022 NHL draft a close look was also given to 2003 birth years not taken in this past NHL draft. One of the repercussions of COVID was a missed season for many Ontario prospects as the province locked down tighter than any hockey playing location in the world. As such it is our feeling that some very good 2003 players may have been by passed in the draft due to their missed season of development.
