MHL: Omsk Yastreby at Nizhnekamsk Reaktor

Alexander PetrovReaktor NizhnekamskMHLLD5’9″159Vyatskiye Polyany, RUS2006Not yet rated

Game Grade: C+

Comments: Petrov is an incredibly agile but undersized defenseman. Standing only 5’9′, he had trouble keeping up physically with the other players at this level and was beaten in battles pretty easily. His play with the puck was impressive. He showed off some shifty moves using agile stops and starts as well as very tight turns away from pressure. Petrov snapped the puck around well. Offensive upside for Petrov but his lack of size holds him back.

Joey-Christophe MuissuReaktor NizhnekamskMHLLRW6’3″214St. Petersburg, RUS20062023-2024: C

Game Grade: C+

Comments: Muissu is a wrecking ball. He uses his energy and strength to power through opponents and was able to lay some heavy checks throughout the game. He has a heavy shot and let it go many times tonight. He skates with a bit of an awkward and hunched form but is still able to generate solid speed. He does not have the confidence or skill with the puck to win 1v1 and often settles for poor shots from deep. He also lacks energy and is seen floating around for a majority of each game. Some good traits from JCM but not enough were shown tonight.

Amir GizyatovReaktor NizhnekamskMHLLC5’9″139Nizhnekamsk, RUS20072024-2025: B+

Game Grade: B

Comments: Gizyatov is a speedy, skilled, but undersized forward. He plays with a ton of energy and buzzes around all three zones with purpose. He joined battles and was a pest along the boards. He attempted to power through opponents on his way to loose pucks. Gizyatov was given time on both the powerplay, and penalty kill tonight and was effective on both. Offensively he was not able to contribute much but his energy was very helpful to his team. At 5’9′, he does not have the full skillset to make it much higher than juniors but his energy and compete level will keep him around much longer than many others at the same height.

Vladislav UkhmylovOmskie YastrebyMHLLD6’4″163Novosibirsk, RUS20062024-2025: B

Game Grade: B

Comments: Ukhmylov is a December born 2006 and still 16 years old. He is a very skilled and confident defender with the puck on his stick. He shows off some agile footwork and smooth skating form that allows him to rush the puck, maintain possession under pressure, and execute quickly. passes in the offensive zone. He handled the puck with a ton of confidence and was able to pull off some impressive passing plays to set up chances and keep play moving towards the goal. The big issue with Vlad right now is his poor defensive ability. He looked lost in his own end and ended up chasing the puck around as far as the top of the circles. He did not seem to know how to defend the crease and stood watching while multiple rebound attempts occurred in front of him. His offensive ability is very impressive and holds his game up right now. He is a very young player and will have a lot of time to improve the defensive side of his game over the next few years.

Vladimir TimoshenkoOmskie YastrebyMHLLRW6’2″201Omsk, RUS20062023-2024: C

Game Grade: B-

Comments: Solid performance from Timoshenko tonight as he picked up a goal in an Omskie win. He is active on both sides of the puck and keeps his feet moving to stay involved. He protects the puck well using his body and edgework to keep himself between his man and the puck. He joined battles along the boards, but I would like to see him bring a bit more energy and grit when fighting for the puck. I felt that he went in a bit soft and was unable to win possession. His goal came on a pretty play at the end of the first. He cut into the slot and received a pass, then took a couple steps to change his angle and fired a laser, top shelf over the goalie’s glove. Timoshenko has likely not done enough in his draft year to be worth a pick but will be a very important contributor within the Omsk system.

Danila SysoyevOmskie YastrebyMHLRLW5’10”179Achinsk, RUS20062023-2024: B

Game Grade: B

Comments: Solid performance from Sysoyev. Picked up two important goals, scoring the late tying goal and game winner in overtime. Sysoyev is a skilled and speedy forward but lacks the hockey sense/IQ to use it correctly. He was able to pull off some skilled dekes and fakes on his way into the offensive zone but was unable to make it past the top of the circles on the rush. For the most part, he is a good playmaker. He finds open targets and moves the puck quickly. There are usually a couple of moments from him each game that leave me shaking my head when he makes poor pass choices under pressure. His off-puck movement needs a lot of work. He often crowds his teammates and calls for passes in spots where he is unable to receive the puck. He is most effective along the outside of the rink. He does not have the confidence to carry the puck inside for better looks. He prefers to creep along the outside and set up for one timers. He has a heavy shot which he was able to let go multiple times. His first goal came in the final 2 minutes of the game when he fired a shot from distance that made it through a crowd in front and found the back of the net. His second was the game winner in overtime where he fired a heavy wrist shot, top shelf, over the goalie’s blocker from distance. Sysoyev is a skilled player but is not a game breaker. He has put up solid numbers this year but does not drive the bus on his own, he requires good players around him to create opportunities.
