Prep Poll #6

Avon, St. Mark’s, and Berkshire all picked up a loss since our last poll. Meanwhile, Dexter remained hot with two more wins, including a 9-1 road victory over #9 St. George’s. While it shakes up the top teams, they are still in solid positions. The bottom half of the poll could be a dog fight until the end of the month. This week’s poll is slightly different as it is February and time to predict the Top 8 seedings. Also, a reminder that we have seen all the teams involved. We trust our eyes combined with each team’s portfolio.

  1. Dexter – Could this be the year? Balanced roster with skill, snarl, and goaltending. Old School Prep Team.
  2. Berkshire – Berkshire rebounded quickly with a terrific 1-0 win over Salisbury and an OT win over Avon on Beanpot Monday.
  3. St. Mark’s – See above. “Success isn’t always about greatness. It’s about consistency…” -the Rock
  4. Avon Old Farms – The loss to Loomis and Berkshire Monday knocks them from the top spot. “Truth is built with consistency” Lincoln Chafee
  5. Brunswick – The Bears have Lawrenceville Wednesday and Hoosac Friday. Their best win so far was over Rivers. Their last seven games include Cushing, at Fred Gunn, Berkshire, at Salisbury, Fred Gunn, at Taft and at Trinity-Pawling.
  6. Deerfield – Some people say hockey should be called goalie and Elliot Lennon is enormous and can steal games. The Big Green are heavy and built for the stretch.
  7. Salisbury – In the last 11 years of NE Prep Hockey, KUA has won four titles and Salisbury has claimed five. Nine titles in 11 years for those two schools. They cannot be counted out and perhaps should be higher here.
  8. Kimball Union – See above
  9. Belmont Hill – They still have a long way to go with the Iron of the Keller Division, Phillips Andover and at Westminster on March 1.
  10. Holderness – Holderness likely has a decent grip on a playoff spot, but the most challenging part of their schedule remains: KUA (2,) Tilton and Dexter included. Three on the road. First, they have to get by Exeter on Wednesday.

First OUT: Andover, Rivers, Thayer, Tilton
