Arseni Koromyslov

Ian Moran’s Thoughts: Koromyslov is a lanky left shot defender who has the foot work to continually gap up during defensive neutral zone transition as well as the confidence to take away time & space by moving on passes to opposing forwards. In the neutral zone and defensive zone I like how he plays with an extended stick looking to takeaway passing lanes or shooting lanes. He has a quick snap shot from the offensive blue line that is hard and consistently 12″ in the air. We like his ability to one-time pucks from anywhere in his stance and he seems to know that getting the puck quickly to the net will produce more rebounds than looking for the perfect shot. Koromyslov has good balance through contact and does a nice job of tying up opponent’s sticks, but he will need to continue gaining core strength as there seems to be too many times that he get spun around while battling for ice in front of his own net. When given time to sort out the cycle he does an excellent job of accelerating through contact and pinning an opponent to the wall, but if that physical confrontation has a drawn out 50/50 puck battle we feel Koromyslov gets trapped along the wall too often. This is nit picking that will be coached out of him in professional North American hockey.
